I messed up big time

I only need 3 cards for the 02-03 fleer throwbacks master set. Been chasing this set for 15yrs. Finally for the first time I see a Dave Brown auto on ebay. This card would complete my auto set. I immediately place a $50 bid and I planned to make my final bid a day or two before the auction ended. Well I forgot about it and it got away. :|

Anyone else ever do something like this? Who knows if I'll see that card again. :|
 
Plenty of times actually. Maybe not something this rare, well yeah a Giacomin 1/1 I brainfarted on. Maybe message the seller and let him know your situation and ask him to contact the winner on your behalf and offer both a gift to work out a deal?
 
Snipe, snipe, snipe. Set it and forget it. Couldn't tell you how many times hobby friends (from these boards even) have missed out on cards they wanted because they forgot to circle back and make their late bid. The older we get, the more the memory goes...take the human error factor out of the equation and snipe the damn thing :)

Well an early x-mas miracle has taken place. Member @necron99 reached out to me letting me know he was the one who snagged the Brown auto. He said he's been searching for it for a while but wanted me to have it to complete my Fleer throwbacks auto set. What a standout member! It's now in hand and I couldn't be happier. Thanks again @necron99!!!!

Awesome to hear and congrats on knocking that off your wantlist.

@necron99 - That is an excellent gesture and its acts like that and people like you that make the hobby a special place to be........for the true collectors.
 
That's awesome. Great gesture and what are the odds a member here was the "culprit"? I had a similar situation a decade ago here that led to a great hobby friendship.

Had it happen many times! It always stings a little but eventually another shows up unless it was a 1/1. Great gesture and glad it completes a set! Great to hear good stories in this hobby!
 
Just got home from camping for the week and just wanted to weigh in on this. As was said, I have also been looking for this card for a few years and missed a couple of auctions myself. I was just picking up the autos of some of my favorite tough guys and really love the clean look of the card which is great for autos. To come this close to completing a set like that one is phenomenal to me ( I opened four boxes at about $90 per hobby box and hit no autos). So, maybe another will come along but if not, I'm good. Did just pick up a gamer on Fanatics auction while camping that went for about a 1/3 of what I might have bid, so win/win. Thanks for the nice words all. Enjoy finally being able to sign on after all this time and interact.
 
Awesome to see this...good on ya both! :beer: Always loved that set design and the few Wings autos that I have from that set are hands-down some of my pc favorites.
