Buy outs!

#CBJ GM Jarmo Kekalainen confirms there will be no contract buyouts.

Some were suggesting either Wiz or Umberger getting bought out.

Also, the Wild had plans on buying out Heatley but now can't because he is considered a injured player. Wild trying to trade Tom Gilbert but if they can't, they may buy him out.

A rumour from a week ago, Leafs may trade for a potential buy out candidate.

Probably Bryz.

According to a Philly beat writer on NHL radio today (sorry don't remember the name), Bryz will be back unless the Flyers can find a suitable replacement. They are in the Bernier sweepstakes and if they can land him, Bryz would be gone but they apparently aren't comfortable with Mason as the only guy at the moment.

Bryz has made it pretty damn hard to bring him back to the lockerroom though.

I don't think that they would do it this summer, but I would not be surprised if Detroit bought out Franzen after next season.

Obviously Richards has been speculated but with AV in now, the Rangers could hold off this summer and see how he does. If he doesn't do well this season, then buy him out next season.

However, with Stepan, McD, Hagelin, Zuccarello and Clowe unsigned and about 14 mil to play with, buying out Richie now wouldn't be a bad idea. Sather said he plans on resigning the 1st 4, and I read that Clowe would take a cut to stay with the Rangers....but even so, that's damn near close to 14 mil with those guys alone.

It'll be interesting to see what happens, also considering the Rangers don't draft until the 3rd round for the draft (even though they have 3 picks in the 3rd round), so a deal could be made to get a higher pick in a deep draft....i certainly hope so

As much as Franzen frustrates me to no end - why buy out a 25/30 goal scorer with a cap hit of $3.9M.? Granted his goals come in flurries - but teams would line up to sign him in a heartbeat and be willing to pay the $4M. I would think that if Detroit wanted to get rid of him - they could trade him in a country minute.

Samuelsson is the only likely buy-out candidate.

Guru's - wasn't there some language in the compliance buyouts about age limits on the buy-outs???

Bruce, no age limit on the buyouts. As others have said you just can't buy a guy out that is injured.
I agree on the Sammy thing. They could buy out Bert if he's injured (though I doubt it) and Holland has already said it would be unrealistic to buy out Franzen.

I agree, I want to see how a more offensive minded coach does with Bradley Cooper first.

I'd be stunned if the Sabres didn't buy out Ville Leino, man he isn't good for much and he's sooo overpayed it's laughable. Drew Stafford maybe too, he's a headache too.

Might beable to trade him to Columbus for a pick still. At the deadline, a trade for Stafford was close. Think it was Stafford + ?(most likely something small was reported) for one of the first round pick that Columbus has. But when Columbus heard that Gaborik was available, the talks ended and Columbus shifted their attention to the Rags.

The Columbus G.M. said he has talked to other G.M.'s about possible trades and that their picks were up for grabs. He said he wanted someone who could help now and the future. Stafford has 2 years left and is still young enough to stay with them for longer if re signs. Although he struggled to score goals last season, he's shown that he can score goals. Columbus wants goal scorers so they don't win 2-1 games.

Exactly, he's still a decent player. Sometimes he won't me noticeable, other times he will have two hat tricks in three nights. Which is still more than a lot of other players can say. I like him he's a cool guy, I'm sure he would be decent on several teams.

Prepare to be stunned. Leino isn't going to be bought out because the Sabres have plenty of cap room and that's even before they possibly deal Miller and/or Vanek. There's no point in letting him go just yet.

As for Stafford, the rumor is he might go to Edmonton for Hemsky. Sign me up for that.

This is a sign of the Cap era. This is a case where these big $ long year contract fail. Sad to see Vinny leave but I am sure he will play somewhere in the NHL next year....Montreal will come a calling. Now they can get Vinny and Danny Briere at a reduced rate lol.

True story. Still somewhat surprised by this one.

I hope that half of your final sentence comes true...

Habs fans everywhere are positively drooling at the notion of Lecavalier.

I promise - having your boss call you and tell you they think enough of your employment that they are going to pay you to go away is not like winning the lottery.
The money but that is all just a matter of perspective - maybe this is motivation for him and it ends up rejuvenating his career - I hope so, I have always like Vinny (PS - come to Vancouver on a 2yr deal for $2.5mil per - we'll figure out a way to make it work...ha)

Getting paid $32M to not work (in Vinny's case) is just like winning the lottery. Where do i sign up?!?
