hi guys just wondered if anybody could tell me why some of the cards in this set have an old photo-ish looking background as most of the others have a full color one? is it just a variation or something else? thanks much for any info you might have

Those are parallels. An unnumbered gold version and a #/99 platinum version. I wondered the same thing too.

ok thanks very much for the info. i kept pulling them and was wondering what the heck they were. i only have the gold versions because none of them are #. also, maybe you know what the little number with letters on the backs of the cards is? it is near the left, towards the middle vertically. thanks

That number is on all Fleer cards. I don't know what it is, but I will ask.
