Anyone else hear this rumor? I heard it might be true as a way for UD to circumvent the September 30 15/16 product cut off.
Anyone?

I haven't heard that, but I did hear it was pushed back in an attempt to have more cards live and less redemptions included. Not that it matters a whole lot to me since it's way out of my price range. Watching group breaks is sure to be fun though!

Can't see it being true. Not enough lead time to build the cards, chop up the jerseys and most importantly, get them signed. However, if they were unsmart enough and decided to put in non-auto, non-patch RC's then I could see it. But really, I can't.

This is something that was done in exquisite football a few times. Not with memorabilia or signatures, just for base rookies. I would be surprised if UD would do something like this. They are usually careful with rookies and really don't need this to sell the product.

They'd be screwing over 16/17 The Cup. This is also the first I've heard of this "rumour", so I'll go one further and say it's not a rumour at all.

What product cutoff is that? As the only licensed manufacturer, they can pretty much wag the dog any time they like.

They'd have a pretty tough time convincing anyone that rookies from two separate years are still rookie cards, wouldn't they? They have the appearance cutoff for late season rookies that I understood is part of their license. If you put 2016/17 rookies in there, they would not be able to call the 2015/16 cards rookies.

My thoughts anyway.

Heard it from a shop owner who heard it from a distributor. The product cut off is usually adhered to and so it wouldn't shock me if the exquisite products may be making an appearance. Not saying autos or jerseys but certainly base. Also with box prices hitting absurd prices (DA is at $4600 for a 6 box case), it can't be ruled out.

Isn't the product cut off a product of the licensing agreement and amount of products required per year? Has nothing to do with an exclusive.

PLEASE no.

I think it's bad enough that UD has muddied the waters as to what exactly ties a product to a particular season (which determines what players are rookies and which ones are not).

They don't need to include 16-17 Rookies to sell this product. Creating a bunch of Matthew "XRCs" (because that's how they'll be tagged) now that he's playing?? Please don't.

I understand product delays, and UD is playing within the rules as they see best - but I really hope one of these years (when the contract is up for renewal) the rules are changed, and they're told that the prior season's cards have to be released before training camp starts (or something along those lines). No 2016-17 sets allowed to hit shelves before the 2015-16 sets are finished.

When box prices are $700+, there needs to be some added value. XRCs seem to be the easiest way.

I'd be ok as long as there is no overlapping of seasons.

UD aren't the ones raising the price though so they don't need to add value

Are you sure? If it's hitting the distributor well above what it normally does, is it not safe to say that UD is setting the ball rolling on these things being $700+ a pop? I agree with them not adding value...they'll add content and therefore add more packs.

Nope. Just ask Breakaway, pre-order price increase this season is no more than a small percentage

This! UD sold tins to their primary stores to make plenty of profit at $500/tin (usd). Anything over that is on mark up on the distributors and direct sellers.

Ultimate and Premier are 2 of UD's premier products. They pumped them with $5 rookies and people have seen the light on those breaks. Look at the current sale price of those products. Think it will be different with cup? Hits of Gretzky and Yzerman and Mario autos won't save a tin any longer. So... my opinion.....Anyone buying Cup tins over $500 usd are nuts.
