...........on what the Auto Patch RC #/99 Crosby from The Cup is gonna fetch on the 'bay? Any chance that it may approach some of the Lebron's sales from Exquisite from a couple of years ago? My guess is that a nice 3 clr Auto patch from that stuff is gonna bring $3,000-$4,000. What's your guess? Mike

We were just talking about this today.
The Lebron started out at about $2800 to $3500.
It now books for $12,000 and sells for over $9000.00
No way either of the big two get anywhere near there and in the off season.

I'll say because, like Ken said, the Lebron started so high and basketball is many times more popular and more widely collected than hockey, that the Sid card will fetch "only" $2300-$2800.

Also I think Ultimate (and all the other June/late season releases) hurt the pockets of many of the Sid collectors. There really won't be enough time for many of those guys to "recharge" their funds in time to make a first strike and send it up too high.

A regular Crosby(aka a 1 crl patch) will probably go for 2000 to 2200, and a nice 3 clr one will go for 2600-3K.. I just can't imagine it going as nuts as the Lebron year as hockey is not as popular as baketball. I think the smart thing to do if you pull a Sid or Alex, is to get it graded and hope it scores well and then put it away and pull it out in a year or 2 and watch it sell HIGH!

You have to remember the Crosby effect this year... all the high end Basketball guys came over and started cracking our stuff and investing in our cards/products. When have high end RC's in hockey ever gone for these amounts?

UD- Kovalchuk $60, heck even SSP like Nash and Zetterberg don't fetch half of what Crosby was fetching (not sure what it still gets).

SPA- Nash/Spezza/Staal etc $100-200; Crosby $1000 + (to begin

ICE- The big rookies were getting around $200 in 03-04, now Crosby and Ovi fetch around $1K

I'm thinking his THE CUP patch will get $3500-5000 for a really sweet looking one

I think the most one will sell for is $2500-$3000 not sure why basketball sells for 3-4 times as much though Then again I wouldn't know, I don't even watch Basketball!

I'm gonna echo everyone else and say that there is no chance of Sidney reaching Lebron's sales numbers. Even at the way out of my leauge prices for The Cup it's still $150-200 than exqusite. Also I feel like the majority of big pocket collectors are in the US, where Sidney Crosby might as well be a gymnast (for better or for worse). Still a nice patch will still fetch 2-3K.

If I was to think that Crosby would only sell for $2000-$3000 I really would not bother to bust any of this product.I look back over the values of LeBron
and compare him with Crosby.Lebron has been a superstar since day one and in the Leaque now for 3 years.Crosby a young star and only in the leaque for one season.I checked on values from everyones favourite book and this is what was there.I tried to compare a low end,a middle of the row product and a high end.The only one in Basketball that I am really familiar with is Upper Deck.I busted a lot of it back in 03-04 and the rookies were seated similair to the UD Young Guns.

Similiar in some way but yet much different in others.So with that all said I think that perhap Crosby and even Ovechkin will be very exspensive.Multi color patches will certainly earn a premium.All I hope is that I pull one from my
cases that I will be busting.But if I could be convinced that Crosby's patch would only be $2-$3 grand I would be much futher ahead to simply buy the card.Ah but ripping wax is the most fun in this hobby.So I believe that Crosby will open at $4-$5 grand with multi colors bringing a premium.And after 3 years in the leaque as Lebron is now that Crosbys' Cup card will be as high or even more.We will have to assume that Crosby's career will continue to grow and that he achives that superstar status that Lebron has now.Investing in these young stars is always a risk.That is why it is a hobby and we collect because we enjoy it.Just my thoughts for what it is worth.Thanks,Winston.

Ern, there is one problem I forsee with this. Like I said, guys are gonna be tapped a bit after all the late season releases and Ultimate. But for those basketball guys you are talking about coming over are going to have their own hands full with 05-06 Exquisite basketball which (supposedly) releases the same week as The Cup.

Most guys are gonna dedicate their time and money on their first love. Even I am probably going to have to let some Magic Johnson/Lakers stuff from Exquisite slide this year as I pursue my wants out of The Cup.

I think the $3000 mark isn't unrealistic...would be surprised if it went much higher though, but who knows these days.

I wouldn't doubt a price of over $4000 for some sick crazy head of the penguin patch......people pay for nice multicolored patches and I think it's not too unrealistic thatit goes for over $4000
