I must admit that it feels a little weird making my first post here in ages, but over the past few months I have started purchasing hockey cards once again and there are a couple of reasons why Select was my choice. Here is my review.
For starters I like the most of you can not stand useless 50 cent game used cards that continue to be included in a lot of products and Select has stayed away from those. Secondly, the look of the product is absolutely gorgeous and it has a high end look with a mid end price. All of the base cards have a high gloss finish and the inserts, parallels, autos all look sharp and them being sticker autos doesn't really bother me as much as it might others.
I sort of compare this product to Fleer Retro since the content is very similar but the major difference here is that Retro has a lot of autos of players that are pretty much obsolete and have no hobby significance whatsoever. Select has a very good checklist with all of the major rookie autos and some not in other sets I believe and it also has vet autos which is always a nice plus.
To me the value of the product money wise isn't that important to me since if a player performs well all of his cards will feel a bump in price and similarly if he stinks the joint out, the card will suffer.
My attraction to this product is the sweet look and lack of pointless game used cards. My only beef with this product is why a box is 12 packs when essentially 2 packs have nothing. If this product had been 10 packs with 5 pack minis it would have made a lot more sense to me and be a little bit more affordable for collectors.
