Well, it looks like 2005/06 UD Beehive has started hitting eBay.

I've seen a few autographs of the 5x7, scrapbook, and jersey variety.

They all appear to be HARD SIGNED.

Now. . . for the moral question. . .

Does anybody find it disturbing that Upper Deck puts their efforts into getting hard signed autographs on a low/middle tier product like Beehive?

Meanwhile. . . higher priced products like SP Game Used, SPx, and Trilogy all contained STICKER autographs.

Just figured I would throw this topic out there for discussion.

Disturbing? Yeah, I guess, but with this company, there is no rhyme or reason to anything they do. Things are being done as if they have never been in this kind of business ever before, making it up as they go along so to speak. But like I had said at the beginning of the season when they came out with the exclusive contract, no competition, no care. Simple as that.
"You don't like our product? By all means, go buy from our competitors." "Oh wait, there are none!"

I don't find anything about UD surprising or disturbing anymore. Can you imagine the amount of redemptions if they had done hard signed for those products  I will say that I am excited to finally have some hard signed autos, and from what I have seen, they do look really nice :)

If they are hard signed, it might be a strategy to add collectibility to a set that might otherwise have been overlooked.

I thought of that as well, good point. At any rate, anything hard signed is a good thing :)

It's very interesting to see that. You can definitely tell the Photo Graphs are hard signed due to the size of the autograph (just snagged the Gretzky off of eBay for a good price - here's hoping for an SP). Should be interesting to see how (or if) the redemptions are done for the 5x7s.

I'd have to agree with Tricia!

Too add collectibilty to an otherwise Lack Lustre product!

I was surprised to see all of the Hard signed autos in Beehive again this year, but I guess that is the plan with all of the Beehive releases. Remember in 03-04 all of the autos were hard signed also. It was my favorite product of 03-04 and from what I have sen so far it will most likely be the same for 05-06. I see what you are saying Jason, why the stickers in the High-end stuff, but the good news is that you don't have to spend $150 on a box to get a nice hard signed card. Also, I don't see why everyone is quick to dismiss this product as an inferior product. Great looking set design, artwork and a tough 250 card set for set builders. A few too many parallels perhaps, but all that does is add a little value in a box break. Let's face it guys, for a $55-$65 box, it looks pretty sweet. That's my $.02. Mike

Anyone wanna help me figure out the parallels?
Ern, Here is how I understand it:
Base Set: 90 Cards (#1-90)
Rookies:90 Cards (#91-180)
Jumbos: 70 Cards (#181-250)
Jumbos Rookies 5 Cards (#R1-5)
Red Parallels: 1:2 Packs
Blue Parallels: 3:Box
Beige Parallels: 1:Box
Matte Parallels: #/100
Beehive Backs: 1:480 Packs
I am not sure about this info. Mike

That looks about right Mike. I believe the Beehive backs are numbered /25, thought I saw that somewhere, but don't quote me on that yet :)

Shawn, Actually I think the Matte RC's are #/25. From what I have seen the Bee Hive backs are not #'d, but I could be wrong. Mike

You know what, that does sound right, I had it my mind that the Matte were /25, but when I saw /100 in your post, I knew that was right as well, so yeah, I do believe you are on to something there :)

Excellent, thanks Mike.

So theirs a lot of parallels but really nothing toooo hard to get for us player collectors

I tend to agree with Mike here. I don't think they are hard signed to bring attention to a "lower-end" product. I think a lot of it has to do with quantity. Bear with me.

I am thinking that the same time stickers were sent out for SPGU these Bee Hive issues were sent with them. It is obviously much easier to go through sheets of stickers sign them then stack upon stack of cards (as well as shipping the buggers!).

Case in point. Rob Blake has 2 auto's I believe in Bee Hive. In SPGU he has 10. Now multiply the number of cards in SPGU by the varying serial numbers affiliated with each and can you imagine the amount of cards Blake would be rumaging through? It is much easier to go through a sheet and sign away rather than card after card and let it dry, etc, etc.

I do agree with Jay in that it's kind of lame that the hard signed auto's are on these and not some higher end stuff released early in the year but remember the best is yet to come with Ultimate, The Cup and SP Authentic among others! :)

Hey, I personally dig the look of Bee Hive and maybe some of these autos will reflect the fact they are hard-signed in the market place. ;)

This Beehive product in general disturbs me.... the whole thing is too confusing and the cards aren't even nice looking! Not impressed at all....

I saw 1:240 today quoted for the Beehive Backs. Don't know the RC odds for them tho...
