Will miss games 2 and 3 of the series.

When compared to what Weber did it makes me believe even more that he (Weber) should have received a game.

The NHL is a freaking joke.

Bitz definitely deserved a suspension, don't get me wrong.

But when you consider Weber intentionally rams someone's head into the boards and gets nothing, and two King players doing the same thing as Bitz earlier this week (and got nothing), the NHL being a freaking joke is only reinforced.

and Weber doesn't get 1 game.... I do not get this  I figure Weber gets 1 game and Bitz gets a game as well

Bruce, to be clear, I don't think anyone is disputing the suspension. He deserves it, plain and simple.

The thing most people are pissed about is the gross inconsistency with the various infractions the past few weeks. The 'discipline' in NHL is an absolute farce.

I personally thought neither was that bad. Weber's was just stupidity, while Bitz at least was a hit partially from the side. I'm amazed Bitz got 40% of Duncan Keith's punishment, considering Keith's was ten times worse.

Randy - understood.
Just was really commenting on the way Bitz went about it.

As far as the "gross inconsistency" - I think you know my thoughts - LOL!

Of course then you have the above post???????
What part of an elbow-to-the-head-to-the-glass do you think "is not that bad" ??

I think the Bitz hit was bad, but not in comparison with others we've seen. I was using the Keith elbow as the baseline, which was much more severe IMO. I despise the Canucks, but I didn't think it was directly from the back....and it looks to me like it was his upper arm more than his elbow that made contact. You're probably correct, though, that it needs to be punished.

Just looked at the Zetty hit again. Classless and completely unnecessary, but not comparable to some of the boarding/charging I've seen lately. The problem with the fine, unfortunately, is that it sets a dangerous standard of what you can get away with.

I dont think there is any kind of standard going on in the NHL right now. I think its back to Mojo the Monkey spinning a wheel for suspensions right now. What happened Shanny? Loose the stones for consistency? Betman texting you what to do next? Sedins hit on Keith should have been 1, Keiths hit on Sedin should have been 5-7, Bitz should have been 4-6 and Weber 1 minimum. The NHL is so all over the place, AGAIN, with suspensions I dont think any of us should really complain:crazy:

Does not matter if it is the elbow or the forearm, or from the side or the back or the front: Bitz targeted his head - and that is a no-no. It is no longer part of hockey regular season or playoffs. There is no reason for it - it is not part of the legacy of hockey - I just do not understand where that thought comes from.

With Zetterberg - the problem art least for most people is that it was not a 'hit', it was not an elbow - Weber took the back of his head - WITH HIS GLOVED HAND - and tried to smash it into the glass. How can anyone say that it is part of the game???

so all in all:

-turnbuckle smash
-intent to injure
-aimed for the head
-not even a hockey play

i'm ok with Bitz's ruling but still don't understand how Weber got basically nothing for something so blatant.

In a vaccuum - Bitz had it coming and I have no problem with the suspension.

Unfortunately for the NHL - this happened the same day as the Weber incident. All this does is reinforce the belief that you will get crushed by the NHL if you are a fourth liner and have your hand slapped if you are a superstar.

They are making up for all the missed Canuck suspensions in last years playoffs......
