I'm not certain what the last box of hockey I opened was. It may very well have been 2013/14 National Treasures when it released - I think I opened three cases of the stuff and loved it. Which makes this journey a little more entertaining I think.

Anyway - I was putzing around Blowout earlier this week and noticed they were running some goofy Halloween special. Basically, pay $180 and hit their randoms - I am sure this is a way for them to sluff off some of their bulk at good prices but their were also cases available and such so I figured I would give it a rip.

I will start out the Show and Tell portion of this thread with the following realization:

*Blowout was smart enough to set the sale amount at $180 due to their shipping policy - free shipping at $200. Of course I am not going to spend $10 to ship, I may as well spend a bit more to have something else to open...right?

I was digging around some of the bargain bin hockey stuff and, for some unknown reason, decided I would roll with a box/pack/card from Famous Fabrics Ink. One card, one cut signature, one 1/1. I knew there was a good chance of pulling a Dean Lombardi cut 1/1 signature worth about a buck and a half but there are some HOFers in there and the price was cheap so what the heck. I will roll the dice in the name of free shipping.

:vomit: snake eyes :|

Barry Cullen 1/1
The odds of me pulling a player that I have never heard of that is still alive are staggeringly against, but somehow I overcame the odds to pull Barry Cullen.
It does turn out that Barry is John's dad, so that is neat trivia - and he owns a car dealership in Guelph, also neat trivia. Neither one does anything for the value of this card...sooooo....on we go.

I will pause for station identification and to discuss my flawed reasoning. The shipping thing was pretty straight forward - I think we all would have done something similar. However, Blowout sent the box two day Priority, meaning the package would arrive this afternoon, meaning that I may not be home, meaning that I may not be able to open the cards until tomorrow or...gasp...MONDAY. This just would not stand.

Late last night I received an email blast from my LCS - not much of a hockey offering but I did notice he got in some UD Buyback packs and had they at a ridiculously low price based upon what I have seen them going for.

To offset the potential damage of missing my Blowout package and instead of racing home to make sure I was there before the Postal Carrier - I raced to the LCS, discovered there were three packs remaining, quickly decided there was no way to choose just one, grabbed all three and raced home to try and beat the Postal Carrier. Makes loads of sense I know.

Here are the spoils of the UD Buyback packs...

Pack #1 -

Tavares /49 and Burakovsky Young Guns /25
I haven't seen a ton of this broken but this has to be pretty ho-hum

Pack #2 -

Ward /49 and SPGU Hall /99
This pack had me confused for two reasons...1) why the heck is Cam Ward still deemed to be the Hurricane player of merit (behind Staal) for sets? I am shocked he still has a starting gig. But I digress to 2) why is there no auto on this card? Clearly #2 is my fault as I thought all cards were auto'd at it seems that one per case is not so that one is on me. Upper Deck - you still need to work on #1.
Shockingly - I was a little disappointed in this pack at first but only very slightly - certainly it is great to get a nice Hall true rookie /99.

Pack #3 -

Pavelski /49 and Jagr 1/1
NOW THAT IS WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT!!! (as my four year old would say)
The Jagr card is beautiful and the exact card I want in Buyback offerings. Love it, I may just try to blackmail an Eastern Block super model with nudie pictures of me sleeping with this card in honor of this card.

OK - now back to the package that I clearly made it home in time to open. The odds were small to draw a decent product and get your money back out of this Blowout promotion however I got lucky and got one of the better boxes. 2013/14 National Treasures Hockey - I was pretty excited.

No more attempts at humor from me - just photos or lists of the cards in my one pack.

Not pictured -

Base /199 - Giroux & Zetterberg
Rookie Auto /99 - Kostka
Century Materials Jersey /99 - Denis Potvin

Gang Scan of Decent Hits

No idea on the value here but a real nice Schultz ARP /99, Hellberg Auto/Booklet redemption, cool looking Prime Number Etem /25 and a Crosby Plate - not bad at all.

Not sure why I parsed this one out but I like low numbered base inserts/variants/parallels/whatever...

Curtis Joseph #'d 1/5

And then - I guess this is what is supposed to be the hit of the pack...what a bummer of a card this chunk of junk is...

  WINNING!!! :):whatthehell:

So - all in all. I pretty good day breaking cards.

No idea what the heck I am going to do with any of this stuff. Maybe just give it away to a good costume tomorrow night...we shall see...

For now - I am going to go power back two of the Laffy Taffys that were included in my package...

"Why are A's like flowers?"

"Because B's come after them!!"

Awesome

Holy Crapamoly! a dual shield and two Laffy Taffy's!i hope they were Strawberry and Banana, thems my faves! seriously,Congrats on being the luckiest Ghoul this Halloween!:whatthehell:

There were 3 Cullen brothers that played in the NHL Brian, Barry and Ray and all became car dealers in Southern Ontario. They now own 6-7 dealerships with other family members. I am a GM Dealer myself so full of useless info! Great pickups! Love the shield!

FYI the dual shield is spoken for, I'm sending Joe a Ryan Miller insert from Tim's. It was agreed upon on twitter. I believe those deals are binding

Congrats again Joe!

That dual shield is just gorgeous, Panini did an outstanding job with those cards and that entire set in general.

Hopefully the duo featured get it going and that thing heats up for you as an trade/sale asset.

Good to see you dude!
