Ummm...at the risk of being automatically blackballed (thus I'll ask the question in the forum) - since I just picked up a Garbutt /50 on eBay for $3.25 and the most any Garbutt has sold for, including shipping, is $6.25 - what exactly would you consider a lowball offer against your opening "starting point" price of $30? How about on a Sheahan which goes from $4-$10 dlvd, on which you have put a starting point price of $50?

I am truly interested in a few of those cards but if we are never going to meet around (at most) eBay average, then it might be of benefit for anyone looking at this thread to know that. Thanks in advance for your guidance!

i agree with the other members.. Some really nice cards but your prices are out of this world. Most of the card prices u have are 10x-20x thier actual value

valid posts by all.......while most of you who have posted don't know me,you will understand the prices better after this read. First off I am a breaker and a single player collector which means that its very hard to find stuff I am interested in trading for. Secondly I don't ebay often as I feel that its not a good judge of what a true value is of the card. too many variables like miss spells, wrong catagories, etc. so ebay prices are not a good quote to me..IMHO
thirdly I don't need to trade or sell the cards I have as I don't use money needed to buy so I have to sell to recoup.
lastly I love the thrill of striking a deal..........and its the art of the deal that makes it fun.

so the prices are a starting point and the game of barter begins..... but honestly who in their right mind can sit there and feel comfortable offering 5 bucks on a card that comes from a pack that costs 280.00? I agree that not all cards are worth a fortune but really do the math 5 cards 280 so that means a reasonable offer for a base would be 3-5 not 50 cents........( this is an example)

just to give you an idea that baertschi that everyone keeps asking about......lesser ones are selling on "the Bay" for 150 -230( as some people have said in pms) yet someone ( no names mentioned) offered me 35 and said that was all its worth.......REALLY!? wow hence the reason for the post I figure that if I start way high when they start way low we can be reasonable and get to the right price point........

Well said, they are your cards after all. Hard to sell and make or even come close to breaking even on anything anymore. Good luck with the sales and please let me know about that Hossa if we can swing a deal.

Thanks,
Scott

Fair enough, and I thank you for the response.

All nice cards, I do feel I have to chime in on the eBay comments though. eBay has no standard, if someone is looking for that specific player at that moment a card goes up, if someone gets caught in the moment it goes up. If someone just doesn't want anyone else to get the card it goes up. At the same time if no one decides to reach that specific player or card at tht time it doesn't sell for much. There isn't anyone here who can say they haven't seen or gotten a killer deal on a card there then seen the same card go for more or less. There is no eBay standard, and this seems like a good way to ask and barter or trade.
Good luck Mick and nice cards!

Fair enough, and I thank you for the response. The fact remains that eBay has long been the hobby elephant and de facto sets the market. Hobbyists fail to recognize this at their peril. So, I feel very comfortable offering $5 for card that sells for...$5. We break Prime hoping for a lottery hit - Prime Colors, Namesakes, etc. - low numbered, multi-colored chunks of logo/patch or a nice auto. The rest, particularly given this terribly weak RC crop, is ultimately filler and will sell at corresponding prices.

Anyway, it appears we have diametrically opposed views. Good luck with your sales!

Gallinator, we get your point but this isn't the thread to discuss this. Mick is entitled to put up his Buy/Sell thread and shouldn't have to deal with people discussing his pricing options out in the open. Discuss via PM with the seller and that keeps the conversation private, resulting in a clean thread for those who are interested in reviewing his list and looking at prices.
All this has done is give credence to others to jump on the thread and post for the wrong reasons. Let the man have his thread.

My two cents have run out and Free bumps micko.

I fully support 99goals statement. There will be no further discussion of Mick's prices in this thread. Failure to observe this will result in deleted posts and warnings issued.

I to would like to make an offer on a couple of cards but if we are not using eBay as a reference for value then you probably won't like the offer I would send. Good luck with your sales.

My apologies for overstepping on someone's sales thread - I truly am interested in some of those and did not intend to troll.

If a seller is going to start a negotiation at prices are that are perceivable as very high, then it is only natural that potential buyers will counter at amounts that are perceivable as very low, in an attempt to arrive at the "right" price.

General threats against HI membership of blacklisting for countering with "lowball" amounts are not welcome here. If a seller wants to negotiate, then negotiate in accordance with basic economics.

If a potential buyer does not like the prices and does want to enter into a negotiation with the seller, then move on.

Keep it clean the rest of the way here fellas.

thx to all who have stuck by and soldiered thru this BS. its unfortunate but its something that happens in the hobby. but on to better things. offers anyone and keep in mind its a start price not the law.....
btw lucscaps pm on way for the Henrique, and grice pm returned

Beauty of a Baertschi! Very nice hit. I would be very interested if you are at all open to trades? Or a trade/cash offer.

Here are some items I have up right now: http://www.hobbyinsider.net/forum/showthread.php?t=357385

I also do have a Prime Color Logo of Cam Neely coming in from a break. Very nice patch which has the wheel on it.

All the best, and hope to hear from you!
