Collectors really are nuts

Anyone look at finished or current bid prices on Wade Belak stuff? Last week you couldn't give his stuff a way now they are selling for crazy prices. There is one of those old classic ones still going and is already at $26:| Ones that are not even certified ending for $20+ and another classic ended for $35.

Same thing with Probert, Boogeyman and I can only assume Rypien. As a Leaf fan I liked Belak but I wish I had 100 of his Leaf autos to sell so I can make some quick cash and I would rebuy them in a month at $.99-$2.00 again.

IMO there's nothing wrong with selling any of his cards at a .99c auction and let the market dictate. I do find it kind of disrespectful when people put up a BAP auto at a $50BIN the day of his death though

Like most true fans I already have my Belak Leafs auto. I bad $1.99 for it so I am happy, I would never pay $35 for it YIKES. I am positivie that it will return to its true value in a few months or maybe even days.

On one hand I can see it from a fan perspective. You didn't fully appreciate the guy before and a sudden passing may cause a fan to regret not ever having picked up something of him. Thus the demand. The supply is the disturbing part. You have people suddenly hunting through their common boxes for base cards of the guy hoping to make a quick buck off of a sad situation.

I think that many are looking to make a dollar, but also that many are just looking at it as a card that no longer retains collector value, and are moving it before it is worth 0 cents. I honestly believe that a lot of the BINs end up being shocked the card finally sold.

I love how all these personally signed ones appear. The old BIN ones sell right a way for normal money, then you get the ones that are new listings with the high BIN. There is nothing wrong with listing them to sell as most are dead stock and suddenly there is a demand (with a small window of opportunity). It just blows me a way at how someone who never put any thought into Wade Belak and didn't want his card at $1.99 is now willing to pay $20-35 for it.

Cashing in on someone's death is pretty damn low. I have no respect for the scum that would hear about a man dying and decide to make a quick buck by "letting the market dictate the price."

that is pretty messed up. when i heard about Wade's passing yesterday, i thought "i'm going to put one of my auto's up as my avatar on HI". NOT "whoa, i could make a buck!!". wtf?

It's merely a business decision for some people. And from their standpoint, a pretty smart one, as they're making money. Many of us aren't in it for the money, so we would not think to do such a thing.

I don't fault a businessman for making a smart business decision. He has no personal tie to the player.

Now, if a shady cousin started selling off equipment or something, that'd really lower the bar, and you see that happen too.
