Curious trade..

Another example of the inability for the management to handle their goaltenders. I dont need to go into more detail about their failures, but it makes me happy to be a Rangers fan. And not many things have made me say that in the last 10 years.

EDIT: and it looks like CD wanted serious playing time, and realized it wasnt coming in MTL. Regardless, this trade makes no sense. I mean, unless CD was due 3 million and Ramo only 500k, but that isnt the case.

yeah, its simple. the Montreal Canadiens continue to provide quality players for struggling teams so they can put people in the seats.

whens everyone going to wake up and see that it doesnt matter if montreal wins anymore, they'll continue to sell out.

tampa needs a winner more than montreal does. plain and simple.

im getting sick of the NHL

Anyone realize the potential of Ramo. They did not give away CD, they think they got the better goaltender and I don't doubt it. He was great in the KHL and has a great pedigree.

Ramo's younger by about two-thirds of a year. He's going to be in the KHL this year, I believe, and won't be able to join the Montreal system until 2011-12. When he does, he could very well find himself as the backup to Price.

Meanwhile, Desjardins shores up the goaltending depth for the Tampa Bay organization, in exchange for someone who wasn't going to be on the roster for any North American club anyway. I'd expect Desjardins and Tokarski to split time in Norfolk, but Desjardins might be the first call up when Smith or Ellis inevitably go down. That way Tokarski can keep getting regular starts in the AHL. It probably pushes Jaroslav Janus down to the Florida Everblades.

This trade is not even worth it's own thread. Zero effect on the Canadiens. Desjardins may never see an NHL game, as some who have watched him play know. Weak on the blades, and at 25 hardly a new prospect anymore.

But you guys can try and make something out of this if you want....I hear Price is bolting for the KHL and that's why this deal was made.

But my guess is that the new coach in Tampa likes what he saw last season in Dessy.

I used to really dig your insights on this Price kid, even helped me to notice some stylings in his game, etc., that I had not noticed before.

However, he is bordering on an unhealthy fixation for you at this point. I fear for your sanity if/when he completely tanks this year....

I just didn't see anyone making anything out of anything; you come to the defense now even when no offense was initiated!!!

What did the undrafted former ECHL'er that hasn't played a full AHL season or a single NHL game ever do to warrant such praise? Oh I know... no, wait, I don't.

I gave up trying to figure out the Habs goaltending. It will be interesting to talk with my hab friends to see what they say about Desjardin now. I was told that in a few years he was going to be the best goalie in the NHL, I can't wait to hear their reasons for this deal. Maybe he is better then Price and they can't have that;)

Confused? don't worry, so are the Habs.

Franks comments above make the most sense in this situation.

*by Frank, I really meant Andy*

Keep in mind another item in play could be the number of players signed a team has - if the Habs are close or at the limit of 50, this frees up space for them to sign someone else, either for the immediate future, or to have a promising draft pick signed for down the line.

You give up one contract of someone who likely is not going to see the bigs, but if they have other goalies they want to look at - it kills two birds with one stone. Since Ramo is not signed - they also get a spot to sign a draft pick that they want to have in the fold at some point

Just imagine how interesting this thread would be if it involved NHL goalies.....

Desjardins is the BIG winer in this deal.... He gets out of Hamilton. LOL I hope his new farm clubis in a nice community.

So Habs management continue to do everything they can to remove even the slightest bit of competition that might come anywhere near Price. Ugh...

Don't be too worried. Most of my Price comments are done for my own entertainment. Read any Montreal thread and then who replies to them and you will see a direct pattern of trollituscanadiensits hehe
