Recently I was asked to undertake creating a KABOOM-style card for Hockey. I did and they turned out nice, but it really didn't feel like "hockey". It felt like a different word would be more appropriate, but with a similar kind of font presentation. I bounced several words around for a while and realized one of the most energizing words in hockey was "SCORES". But it still didn't feel right. However, what if I created this design solely for goaltenders, but instead celebrated the "SAVE!".
Most goalies have a wide stance/position when they make the save, thus I've gone with a landscape/horizontal concept.
From there I started thinking about background. I've done various refractor and holographic stuff, but wanted these to be different, unique, maybe even player specific. And as much as many collectors of my stuff talk about how creative I am, I actually don't feel as such. But I wanted my backgrounds to have that very creative feel, maybe even artistic. And then I recalled seeing some super unique digital creations and thought I would approach the artist. He was/is incredibly interested in being part of this, and he is one of our very own here on H.I.!! He also spent some time specifically designing the backdrop for the image on the back of the card. I will mention his name at the bottom so that you can first; view the cards and see if the backgrounds look or even feel familiar. We're both pumped with this idea!!!
I've created a high gloss version and a refractor version of each card, plus I'm showing the back as well (which is the same for either high gloss or refractor). Sadly one of the refractors became fodder during the assembly process....
