Well it's been a couple of wild and feet-aching days for me. I was able to go to expo without any injuries at all! :dizzy:

I figured I wasn't going to spend more than $100 but managed to triple that so I'm both tapped out for energy and finances, but boy was it worth it!

Day 1:

I get there without issue and have to wait in this ridiculously long line-up because God forbid they let us in early.

I get in and immediately see guys like Singer, No no no the other Steve et al while browsing about. Dave (Sacrebleu) was there and we shook hands while discussing what loot he had to offer. I shook Singer's hand who recognized me from my nametag on here and eBay. I then browsed around and tried to snag a first kill...I mean deal ;)

But first! I roamed over to the compact but welcoming HI booth. There were four chairs and no one around so I plopped myself on a chair and started eyeing the floor. Cyril (cmcdonald1) showed up and was prompt in asking me to computer-sit his laptop as he wandered around for a bit. I happily obliged. :)

Not much happens until I see someone I know with a Bourque Captains SP auto. We talk and walk away happy with a deal. I find yet another dealer willing to part with a sweet LaFontaine International Ice SP Auto for a tidy sum of loot. Afterwards, I manage to deal with the guys at Bacon n' Eggs. I trade some stuff of mine to him in exchange for some of the cards listed below:

2007 UD Maple Leaf 40th Anniversary Autos Brian Conacher
2007-08 OPC Premier Original Six Autos Ron Ellis /100
2008-09 UD Masterpieces Hockey Lanny McDonald Green Border Jersey /85

Furthering my travels along the cement floor corridors lead me to a guy (Bart's Cards) landed me a 2010 UD Clear Cut Champions Mark Messier /100 and a 97-98 Donruss Preferred Yzerman for a great deal. He was also nice enough to give me some cool water which I was desperately needing, which perked me back up to full speed. Thanks man :D

From NWO Joey, I purchased a Malkin Clear Cut Champs for half-off. Thanks chief. :) and found a Lindros Donruss Pref. Platinum base as well. I think I'm going to complete this cool, humble short set of 10 platinums.

Before rounding out my day, I saw something pretty and green in No no no...the Other Steve's showcase. A Dominion emerald of Paul Coffey /5. We worked out a deal and I was able to pick up the card for relatively little bux. I said my goodbyes and walked a long distance just to get home with the help of two buses.

Here are the last five cards I snagged from Friday.

Day 2
I show up Saturday when it began and went straight to the HI booth. Q was chatting with two of his friends from eBay and was nabbing some sweet high-end singles as he's accustomed to doing ;)

Q needed an older memorabilia single for one of his (infinite :p ) ongoing sets and I handed him one and said 'Enjoy!' Q's been really good to me over the years so I felt I needed a way to pay him back and this was the way. Good luck with the rest, bud!

We then decided on a really nice older insert to transact upon, but I'll save that to the end. Thanks as always for great deals, Steve. :)

While backtracking to the front of the room, I noticed a guy with a stray acetate card of everyone's favorite tire-pumper so for a few bucks we agreed and he was finally able to get rid of it. :D

2009-10 UD Clearly Canadian Luongo /100

Looking around lead me to Frank's booth (FrankToronto) that is directly promoting the Toronto Card Show, which is a great way of spending a Saturday and Sunday morn and afternoon. :)

I scoured over and the guys at the booth really took good care of me for what I bought (LaFontaine Certified Gold Auto /25 and Plante Parkhurst Jersey). :) Thanks as always gang.

I also wandered over to a bunch from Finland. They had a bunch of great cards, but were seemingly dismissive but that might have been a language barrier. Regardless, for some money, I was able to land a couple of big playmakers jersey, a gorgeous modano quad jersey auto and a decent Decades Chicago quad jersey gold /9! Here are the scans of Frank and the Finns cards:

10-11 Certified Gold Auto LaFontaine /25
2009-10 UD Ice Black Preview Quad Jersey Auto Modano

2011-12 Decades 80s Chicago Quad Jersey Gold Tony O/Eddie B/JR/Denis Savard
2003-04 Parkhurst Before the Mask Jacques Plante Jersey Silver
2005-06 UD Playmakers Jersey Cam Neely /50
2005-06 UD Playmakers Jersey Martin Brodeur /50

While travelling to get these snags, I ran into Glenn-o! (BigBarracuda) and walked most of the floor with him for a good long while. Dan (27Leafs27) showed up halfway through and the three of us enjoyed a good chat. That's really what the hobby's about, more than the cards and the cash - the chums. :)

I said my farewells to all sorts of HI guys (too many to list) and said farewell with a smile to the Arrow Hall 5 area where the Expo is hosted year in and year out. With painful steps, I managed to catch the buses needed to take me home and post this great thread up.

Thanks for viewing :)

Oh...you wanted to know the insert I bought off Q? Feh, so impatient. ;)

Here we go. It is a real doozy. None other than...

...

A 1996-97 UD Lord Stanley's Heroes Finals Jagr!

expo-_0006.jpg

The scan doesn't do it justice, and the surface is much cleaner than that shown. I was surprised Q had this little gem stashed away in his upcoming Infinite Tradebox 2 ;). As always, the non-chalent doctor said 'meh' as I pointed out one of the premier inserts anyone could find from the mid-90s. Q let me pick it up for a lot less than some might pay, and is always generous with me (and many others) when dealing with him. His radioactive shirts were more magic eye-quality patterns, but he suggested I was reading too much into his ensemble.

Until next time, keep fit and have fun!

Wes you are a really good writer. keep it up! nice hits.. I got to see the last shiny in person.. awesome. thanks for sharing.

Great show and tell. the bourque auto is the canada vs the world sp as opposed to the captains c one though...i imagine a typo more then a known no

Great pickups, it's been around 20 years since those Body Break commercials started and Hal Johnson somehow looks younger now. Maybe it's because he shaved the mustache.

I also forgot my mail week snags:

expo-_0007.jpg

Wes, as a collector of older inserts I have to say for people that don't know the cup finals cards are some of the toughest to find. Congrat's!

Nice post pieman! Great to hang for a while. So that's the gold Potvin that was nothing less than an act of thievery ;)

Glenn
