Since posters on Beckett seem to be more concerned with responding to threads about passing gas ( I swear to god, I get dumber and dumber everytime I log on there. That site is quickly becoming an embarassment to the entire internet), and very little to talk about league-wise (By the way, did you hear Mike York signed with Columbus??? Didja?? Didja??) I figured we could take a couple of strolls down memory lane. First off, lets see some of the trades that really made you shake your head, especially in hindsight. Two come to mind (and I am sure one of them will be the second trade posted) for me: However, I'll just mention one: the Isles trading Jokinen and Luongo for Kvasha and Parrish. Every day that passes makes this look like one of the most lopsided deals in league history.....

What else comes to mind?

One of the most one sided trades has to be Cam Neely and a first round pick that turned into Glen Wesley to Bruins for Barry Pederson!
Also Dan Cloutier to Kings for 2nd rounder and a conditional pick in 2009.LA gave up wayyyyyyyy too much.:|

I may be biased, but Bertuzzi & Allen for Luongo was the trade of the century.

and from history, I think the Pederson for Neely was the worst for the Canucks.

Gord Stellick traded Russ Courtnall for John Kordic, not exactly his best moment.

Courtnall had a decent run but Kordic burned out and ended up commiting suicide in a standoff with police.
Dan.

1991

St. Louis gives Cliff Ronning, Geoff Courtnall, Robert Dirk, Sergio Momesso and a 5th round draft pick (Brian Loney) to the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for Garth Butcher and Dan Quinn

that trade made the 1994 run for the canucks.

Some brilliant deals off the top of my head:

07-Aug-92: Chicago Blackhawks traded Dominik Hasek to the Buffalo Sabres for Stephane Beauregard and 4th round selection (Eric Daze) in 1993.

10-Mar-00: Buffalo Sabres traded Michal Grosek to the Chicago Blackhawks for Doug Gilmour and Jean-Pierre Dumont.

04-Mar-91: Pittsburgh Penguins traded John Cullen, Jeff Parker and Zarley Zalapski to the Hartford Whalers for Ron Francis, Grant Jennings and Ulf Samuelsson.

Bruce: What made the Neely trade really bad for the Nucks was that it included the first round pick that became Wesley then after several of Wesley's prime seasons the Bruins sent him to the Whalers for 3 first rounders that became McLaren,Aitken???,and Samsonov.

Pederson for Neely was bad enough... you had to bring THAT up, didn't you?!?! No Soup for YOU! ;)

Don't forget that Krajicek was also part of the Luongo deal which makes it even worse.

In recent times though:

Thornton for Sturm, Stuart & Primeau, of which only Sturm remains

Jokinen for Ballard and Boynton

2 come to mind.1)Thornton for 3 players(Strum left)..The best though..NYI Trades D.Lewis & B.Harris to LA For Butch Goring & The Isles Win 4 Striaght Cups..That's how a trade pays off..Thank you Mr.Bill Torrey..

I still remember that trade like yesterday. I think I tossed my cookies when I heard it. Kordic had nothing to burn out from. He was a brutal hockey player but could give the fist-a-cuffs to anyone....Great bouts between him and Miller in the day but that was in Montreal

How about most of the ballard trades that saw Mcdonald,Sittler ,Turnbull and Tiger go? The leafs had something there and got garbage back

Brutal!!!!!

As an Islander fan, I am quick to point point out other bad trades!!

In 1967 Chicago sent Phil Esposito, Ken Hodge and Fred Stanfield for Pit Martin, Jack Norris and Gilles Marotte to Boston.

Teemu Selanne and Marc Chouinard and a fourth round pick
for
Oleg Tverdovsky, Chad Kilger and a third round pick

Best trade ever for the Quackers... Though dumping Fedorov was a close second :D

1992-Jun-30 Eric Lindros Traded from Quebec Nordiques to Philadelphia Flyers for Chris Simon, Mike Ricci, Kerry Huffman, Ron Hextall, Peter Forsberg, Steve Duchesne, future considerations, round 1 pick in the 1994 draft, round 1 pick in the 1993 (Adam Deadmarsh) draft and cash

This only set up Que/Col to become dominant and gave a foundation to win there first cup. Lindros had a decent career but what did he accomplish? Ricci, Forsberg and Deadmarsh were pivotal to Colorado's Cup team.

Patrick Roy Traded from Montreal Canadiens with Mike Keane to Colorado Avalanche for Andrei Kovalenko, Martin Rucinsky and Jocelyn Thibault.

Does this need explaining?

JANUARY 1968

9- To Oakland: Ted Hampson, Marshall Johnston and John Brenneman
To Detroit: Kent Douglas

I'm still having a time digest this one...hehehehee

Hartford sends Chris Pronger to St. Louis for Brendan Shanahan. We got to watch Pronger become a top tier D-man while Shanahan fudged us over.
