Best-of-7 series is tied 3-3
Washington Capitals coach Barry Trotz said at the end of Game 2 of the best-of-7 Eastern Conference First Round series against the New York Islanders that he was prepared to go the distance if necessary.
Preparation will meet opportunity for the Capitals and Islanders in Game 7 on Monday (7:30 p.m. ET; NBCSN, SN, TVA Sports 2, MSG+, CSN-DC). The winner will play the New York Rangers in the second round.
"They're the games you want to play in," Capitals defenseman Mike Green said in video posted by Monumental Network. "Just go after it. You can't be scared of the challenge and we just have to have the right mind frame and I think it starts with that.
"If you can't get up for Game 7 you're not human or an athlete."
It's fitting that this series will go the distance as the Capitals and Islanders each had 101 points and more than 45 wins in the regular season. They've been even in the first round too, with each team scoring 14 goals through six games.
"They're sick of talking about us and we're sick of talking about them, so we go down to Game 7 and it's the way the series has played out and the way it's going to be," Trotz said. "It's probably going to be a fitting ending to go to Game 7 because they're two very evenly matched teams."
