Best-of-7 series is tied 3-3

Washington Capitals coach Barry Trotz said at the end of Game 2 of the best-of-7 Eastern Conference First Round series against the New York Islanders that he was prepared to go the distance if necessary.

Preparation will meet opportunity for the Capitals and Islanders in Game 7 on Monday (7:30 p.m. ET; NBCSN, SN, TVA Sports 2, MSG+, CSN-DC). The winner will play the New York Rangers in the second round.

"They're the games you want to play in," Capitals defenseman Mike Green said in video posted by Monumental Network. "Just go after it. You can't be scared of the challenge and we just have to have the right mind frame and I think it starts with that.

"If you can't get up for Game 7 you're not human or an athlete."

It's fitting that this series will go the distance as the Capitals and Islanders each had 101 points and more than 45 wins in the regular season. They've been even in the first round too, with each team scoring 14 goals through six games.

"They're sick of talking about us and we're sick of talking about them, so we go down to Game 7 and it's the way the series has played out and the way it's going to be," Trotz said. "It's probably going to be a fitting ending to go to Game 7 because they're two very evenly matched teams."

i hope the refs let the players decide,,,,,,,,,,,, this has been a great series for the hard hiting rough style hockey of old
almost as good as the leafs islanders series years ago where it was a war every game

lets go islanders .............. lets have another game at Nassau

I picked the Caps in this series but am ultimately torn as to whom I'd like to see advance.

You've got the Caps, perpetual losers, a team that seemingly always finds a way to not get it done. That said, I have a soft spot for Ovie as he has proven to be the exception to the rule with "lazy Russians", year in and year out staying motivated to excel and get to the next level.

Then you have the Isles who have had a lot of lean years and are on their way out of the island to Brooklyn. Plus it would match them up against the Rags next round which would be a classic.

Should be a great game setting up a terrific 2nd round matchup either way.

I'm with B above me. I picked the Caps to win, but really didn't have much of a preference who moved on.

One thing is for sure though, the two guys wearing the "C" on each team, have played like they deserve it. Tavares has stepped up big time, and Ovie is being Ovie, throwing his body around and hitting people like crazy.

I would definitely love to see and Islanders/Rangers matchup, I think that would make for one crazy series.

Definitely pumped to watch this game tonight

I'd love to see the Caps move on, but man would a NYI vs NYR playoff series be fun. We could be treated to some insanely nasty hockey, although, I don't think the Rangers have anyone to counter the Martin-Clutterbuck-Czikas line.

It was definitely a great series. Isles gave it their all and have nothing to hang their heads about. Caps played an amazing game 7 to stifle the entirety of the Islanders lineup and earned the win. Let's go Caps!
