I dunno who saw the Devs/Sens game today but some may feel that the Gomez goal shouldn't have counted. It should be in the NHL.com highlights later.

Basically Gomez put a nice shot into Emery but Emery slid into the crease and it was called as the puc was in. When they zoomed in on the replay it was clear the both of emerys pads crossed the red line.

Anyone else care to chime in?

Even though you couldn't clearly see the puck, it was very clear that it was in. If the puck was under any part of his pad, his goal pads and trapper were well across the red line.

I didn't see the goal but as far as I know if it was called a "No Goal" from the start, then they would have to see the puck in the net to so call overturn it, regardless of the fact that they can assume his pad was over the line. With saying that if they called it a goal from the start, then anything goes. Somewhat like football. But I could be wrong.

Yeah it was a goal. You couldn't see the puck but his pads, and trapper were all inside the line.

You're right as to the rule,
but I THINK they called it a goal.
with help from the linesmen stationed off to the side of the goal.

Emery basically admitted it went in.

I think it was a goal.

In Soccer, I believe a penalty ( in a shoot out ) is deemed ended as soon as forward momentum is stopped.

The reason is came about was because a player shot, it hit the post, came back off the goalie and went in. It was disallowed because coming back off the post had stopped the forward momentum.

I know the rule doesn't apply in hockey, but it could have been used.

Did Emery stop the momentum of the puck or did his backwards momentum count as the puck's continued forward movement ?

I suppose for a split second when the puck hits his pads it is stopped :)

Sorry for clouding an already cloudy discussion
