I got this puck today, I am pretty sure the bottom signature is Patrick Roy, but no clue at all who the signature on the top is, any bright ideas?

Not Forsberg. Not even close. And if it was an attempt, it was a poor one. Roy looks forged as well. If try and get my money back if I were you or send it to an authenticator.

I have my doubts about the validity of the ink as well, but it is for sure (an attempt at least) Forsberg.

Here is a rough example of an older version of his autograph that was attempted on the puck:

Again, I say it's Forsberg. Everything points toward him, as it couldn't possibly be anyone else on the era of AVS puck depicted...Peter Worrell's ink is nowhere near that style.

Even the worst Forsberg forgeries don't look THAT bad. I'm just gonna say it because it is pertinent, I'm kind of an expert on Forsberg autographs and autographs in general. I've probably got at least 60 signed items of Peter's, not counting cards.

As far as the era of puck, that's irrelevant. I have older style pucks I sue all the time still for things.

Either way, I think this person should seek to get their money back because what we know is an attempt at Roy, is not consistent with Patrick's signature either. And again, I have more examples of Roy than I can shake a stick at. The "P" is too rounded, the final stroke and downslope in the "R" come down too crisp, should be more rounded, and the 33 is way too clean. Patrick hardly ever lays down a 33 like that, usually one of the "3's" is more illegible.

These are good points. I can't say it was a legit Roy but that was who it looks like. Barrie's point about the 3's never looking that crisp is true. He also puts little lines above and below the 3's. Even his early MTL autos do not look like that when you put it all together.

I hope we are all wrong but something appears off.

Here is what I know:

I bought it at a LCS, he deals in a minimal amount of hockey. He bought a bunch of pucks off of a customer of his from the Detroit Area, he had a lot more, but only 5 left when I was at the store. From what I can tell, they have been there quite a while, I would only expect players that played for the AVs while Roy was there.

The other 4 pucks were all labeled with the player names, this one was not. The other 4 were Lindros, Bondra, Dunham and Daneyko.

I bought this one because I recognized the Patrick Roy signature, but I am hardly an expert. The thing that makes me think it might maybe legit is because the Lindros and Bondra looked good, and who would fake a Daneyko?

But maybe because the others were labeled and this one was not, it might not be from the same person and the shop owner was just mistaken.

Is it possible that it could be a player not from the AVs?

Anyway, I didn't pay a lot for it, so I wouldn't be super upset, but I thought I got a really good deal on something.

That's all I got.

Here are a few examples of Forsberg and Roy autos I have gotten myself, signed right before me so I have absolutely ZERO question as to their authenticity.

Of note, these were NOT done at signings either, just for me, so I imagine they are a good representation of a "in-person" type autograph?

You guys tell me?

The only other option it could be (in my opinion which is nowhere near expert) is former head coach Bob Hartley, who won the Cup in 2001. It's definitely not Bourque.

As wrong as I may be, I say if it's a fake, someone did a poor job at Roy & Forsberg.

Sorta looks like a Jeff Finger auto. (Played in Colorado in 06-08)

Here's an example of it found on Ebay:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/JEFF-FINGER...16034714?pt=US_Autographs&hash=item2ea9b9ff9a

It has a lot of the same characteristics of his signature.

It could have been from an Avalanche sponsored event while Finger was still on the team and Roy was also part of.

If each took their time, their signatures could look like this. The Paddle pic of Roy's signature proves that he can sign the "33" legible.

Definitely not Forsberg's auto since most of his examples include his number.
