My cards are all listed as such:

Listed in category:

Sports Mem, Cards & Fan Shop
>
Cards
>
Hockey

My questions is, does this matter? If a card was listed as Everything Else>Other people would still find it as they search for the name of the card right?

I only ask because of restrictions on listing BIN for the free listings.

Thoughts?

Thanks,
Scott

Interesting question. My page automatically opens in the hockey section of ebay so when I search for a Bower auto, I only see cards and not memorabilia. I am not sure how many folks search from the home page which would make your point of the category being irrelevant

I personally always filter into the Hockey items, but I have no idea how the majority do it. I would guess that you would lose a significant portion of eyeballs if they were listed in a general category.

I read those restrictions, too, and was trying to think of good ways around them.

I feel the same way in regards to variation listings. For example, my Panini World Cup insert listings had to be put under Sporting Goods > Other in order to qualify. I've sold a ton so far though so it seems to work just fine

I have all of my favorite search set from the www.ebay.com main search engine both titles and descriptions. Sure this leads to a large amount of search results, but it also leads to many a hidden gem when people put this in the title:

"Massive insert collection!!!!! MUST LOOK READ DESCRIPTION" and then they load up the description field with the players they are selling.

As an eBay Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.
I often search for sets and the categories matter a great deal. I don't have much patience with separating the wheat from the chaff. I probably do miss out on some good deals, but sellers also miss out on some good bids.

I search from the homepage for title and description so I don't miss anything,I've bought countless PC cards that were in wrong categories ie baseball, football, etc.

For me, it depends on the 'rarity' of what I'm looking for if I search in 'off categories'. I'll leaf through 'other' locations if I have time, but I usually trust that if it's a hockey card, the seller has put it in the 'hockey card' category...

Out of curiosity, why wouldn't you just list in the 'correct' category?

He stated why in his original post:

"I only ask because of restrictions on listing BIN for the free listings."
