No, not that kind of cut, or that kind of whale either. You will see. It's been a while, too long! I have been inactive in the hobby world other than a few pick-up's here and there. I swear if it wasn't for hanging with Jon (bebop), Gordon (shaboobala), Matt (chadsexington), Derek (burebuyer) and JZ on the odd weekend here and there, Id forget what the hobby was like hehe ;). I cut back big time though. Sold most of my traders and stuff with the help of Derek. Ive been focusing my free money on Golf and Fishing ;). That, and Baby furniture and stuff for when he or she arrives. About 2 or 3 more weeks left till that happens! I do my daily ebay search for Matt Cooke items still though :).

Anyhow, I only have a few pick up's but they are significant...

Our family friend Greg signs so much stuff for me. This is a team issued card pictured playing for the NY Red Bulls... Apparently Im gonna be getting myself a few more game used jerseys from his mom soon :).

This is a weird odd ball game card of Cooke for my Cookie collection. A few months back, the best odd ball finder I ever knew, Kevin (kmitchell) surprised me with this. Never even knew it existed!

This is the first card I bought on ebay in about 4 or 5 months. A 1951-52 Parkie Cal Gardner RC. This guy was my uncle's uncle. So I figured as a 60th b-day present to my uncle, Id get him one of these. He was never a collector, but he should like it I hope.

This was insane!!!! Ron Jamison (vintagehky) saw me post about a year and a half ago when I met some golf legents in Maui and was able to score some IP autos. Brett (Bamlinden) made me some sweet customs with them and Ron sent me all these for free! He said, maybe one day I can get some more customs made! They include sigs of Jack Nicklaus, Lee Trevino, Orville Moody, Tom Watson, Rick Fehr, Billy Casper, Greg Norman (one of my all time fav's!), Hale Irwin, Payne Stewart, Arnold Palmer, Raymond Floyd, Corey Pavin, Tom Kite, Lanny Wadkins etc... Thanks again Ron!!

Jon (bebop) found this old Cookie pants shell at the Nucks outlet store for me. Another Cooke game used item to add to the PC. Thanks again Jon!

And now for the top 2 snags...

2 more custom "cut" autos created for my by Brett (bamlinden)! I obtained these autographs about 20 years ago when I was 10 or 11 at a old timers hockey game. Sent them off to Brett a while ago and he put these 2 gems together for me. I love em' both! The Ullman looks like what a early 80's pack pulled OPC auto might have looked like, if they would have done that back then! And the Big M cut as awesome! No more words, you can't guild a lily!

and now for the White whale...

Huh? Well not a white whale I guess....

A White Sturgeon! This and golf as mentioned earlier, is where most of my hobby money goes. I've been fishing for my whole life, and it is my life. Ive landed about 100 or 150 White sturgeon over the last 2 or 3 years out of the mighty Fraser River close to home here in BC. Most about 3-6 feet long with the odd 7 footer. However this past April, I landed this 10'4" aprox 600LB monster. The biggest one I'll likely ever hook into in my life. It took 4 hours and a lot of team work to do it. I could only fight it for 2.5 hours until my arms almost tore off. I had to hand the rod over and steer the boat for the last 1.5 hours till we got it to shore.

DSCN5409.jpg

A better shot to see the true length of it. Unfortunately the pictures are not the best as it was late into the night when we landed it. And also, unfortunately, this one got me into some trouble... Let me explain. My parents expected me at their house at 6pm for Easter dinner... The fish of my lifetime (which I kept assuring them) was on the beach at 9pm :(... Oh ya, it was also my wifes 30th birthday dinner at my parents house too!!! :(. On the phone, when me and my 2 buddies gave my family and wife updates, we all assured them this may never happen again in our lifetime and there was nothing we could do but fight it till the end... Id like to think they understood, but it took a few weeks and a lot of begging my wife to let me out of the doghouse.... I know its not card related, but it's where I've been ;).

Thanks for the looks, crew!

Awesome man, great to see you around!!! I like fishing too but that white sturgeon is just insane I heard crazy story about the Frazer river but that is no fishing story......Awesome man!!!

Girls and their dinner, it's always more fun fishing!!!

Greg,

That sturgeon is absolutely insane! I can't even fathom what you must have gone through.

Great to see you were able to get some photos of it.

Glad to see the customs made it to you ok. Those golf autos have got me a little curious. Maybe down the road we can do another set of some sort. :)

Cheers,
Brett

WOW!

So do you keep it, eat it or stuff it? I had no idea that a monster like that could be found in Canada.

An absolute great story and fish.

Seriously, what did you do with it?
Cory

That sturgeon is HUGE! We used to catch them off the Bay of Fundy but I've never seen one that big. The biggest one I caught was about 150 lbs. Thats awesome...I would have been stoked catching that whale.

Oh, congrats on the upcoming addition too.

I fish a lot, but never would I imagine catching anything like that. That's amazing. Pretty much exactly what they were looking for on that River Monsters show when they were up in Alaska. That's got to be a top 10 best moments in life when you landed that. A lot of people will never even catch a fish 1/5 the size of that thing.

100-150 over 2-3 years? That's awesome!! We've got some amazing fishing here but not for anything that big. You hear stories of the odd sturgeon being landed here but it's mostly all light tackle fishing. I definitely need to hire you for a charter if I ever head out to the west coast. A week of fishing for Kings and Sturgeon would be a real blast!!!

Awesome fish, hope I can catch something worthy of showing in a few weeks as I am headed up to the Queen Charlottes. Nice custom autos as well.

Cheers
Connie

Hey guys
Thanks for the nice comments! Regarding the fish, it's catch and release only. You used to be able to keep em' but then the numbers started decreasing and now you mist return them all. However, despite what people say, there are huge numbers of them in the Fraser and they ate comming back strong. You will hardly go out an not catch one or more. Sometimes upwards of 20 in a day is possible! We are involved with tagging and sending in the measurements and such for conservation as well. We respect these giants and any tagging and data collection you can do makes a difference for the future of them :)

Sebastien - I saw that episode and have fished those areas the fish warrior had fished in. Some of my fav spots :)

No no no - If u ever come out here man, ya gotta try sturgeon fishing. I'd love to take you out but I'm not the boat owner unfortunately. Bit I know 2 or 3 awesome guides I can set u up with! You would love it!

Connie - I see a nice 50lb tyee in your future! What resort are you heading to?

Brett - I was hoping you would ask about these new autos hehe ;)

I'll take a 30lb tyee, but if you see a 50lb'er ... even better :D . I'm actually not really going to a resort. I am going to be staying in Sandspit. My bf works up there for a company called Sandspit Adventures. We are going to fish a few rivers for Coho and then we will head to the west side, specifically Skidigate Point, to target some Springs and maybe a Hali or two.

Are you going to COOKE that?

ha..ha.. ha.. joking.

Congrats on the catch! One beauty of a fish!

We only fished for things we could eat back home (Pickerel, Speckled Trout). I can't imagine reeling in one of those big boys!

Sweet! You should slay up there Connie :). I never caught a Hali before. I hear hauling them up from 100 or 200 feet of water can be treacherous!
