So the Kings managed to convince Jack to come over.

Apparently, his first game is this tuesday.

What an AWFUL trade from the Hurricanes. I really can't believe how much of a steal this was for the Kings... Johnson could be a top 5 two-way d-man in the league for years to come. The Canes have very little to show for it. Wish my Leafs could make robbery's like this.

Anyways, guess his RC's wait until next season (not that its a big deal, he's a d-man afterall).
 
And the wave of college guys jumping has started LOL I figured Jack was gone.....guessing Eric Johnson for Minnesota is next, wouldn't be surprised to see him signed in the next couple of days. Too bad my boys will be losing Toews when their season finally ends :(

Wonder what number he'll wear since Aaron Miller has 3?:confused: Blake is 4 so maybe 5 since Sopel got traded?

Poor Lionel, JJ's first game against his girls in teal. Someone is getting pasted!:eek:

Wow, Kopi, JJ, man the Kings are retooling this team VERY nicely.:D

Honestly, if he keeps his hits away from the head area, I am fine with him, but he seems to have a tendancy to hit a tish too high on guys....I'd actually be more worried about Marty than anyone. Like I said, kid is very talented and plays a great bruising style, but I feel he goes over the line far too much...maybe that is just youth and it will calm down a bit.

The only possible scenario I see for Toews not leaving when the season is over for UND, is if they make it to the championship game and lose a heartbreaker......and even then I am not so sure he would stick around.

Beauty, and so glad to hear it. The Kings are giving me more and more reasons to blow some dough on NHL Center Ice next year. :D
 
Looks like JMFJ won't be in the lineup tonight but should be Thursday. Poor Nuckies.:cool:

Johnson signs, should play Thursday

The Kings signed defenseman Jack Johnson on Monday to a three-year entry-level contract that will pay him $850,000 a season, with bonuses that add another $2 million a season, sources familiar with the team said.

Johnson, the third overall pick in the 2005 draft, is expected to be in the lineup Thursday when the Kings play the Vancouver Canucks.

The Kings acquired the rights to Johnson from the Carolina Hurricanes for defenseman Tim Gleason and center Eric Belanger. The Kings also had to take defenseman Oleg Tverdovsky, who has one year left on his contract that will pay him $2.5 million next season.

"The L.A. Kings, that's the spotlight, with all the marketing there, that will be a great opportunity," Johnson said last month. "I've played with a couple of the players there, Patrick O'Sullivan, Dustin Brown. I'm excited about playing there."

The Kings' plan to have veteran Rob Blake mentor Johnson, who doesn't shy away from contact and has top-end skating skills and a heavy shot.
 
The Kings have, what, 7 games remaining in the season? Does the first year of the three year entry level contract count this season or from the beginning of next? The reason I ask is because I think it is a waste of a full season at a great price to bring the guy in now if he only plays 6 games under the first year. It's not like the Kings are making a playoff push or are in dire need of his services at present.

I am not quite sure how it works when a guy comes out of school for the last few games of a NHL season like this? Maybe his salary is prorated?:confused:

I am fairly sure he does not get the full contract, that indeed would be a waste.

As far as him coming in, this an awesome thing in my opinion. He gets a taste of the NHL and there is ZERO pressure on him because of the Kings current place in the standings. Plus he'll get to pair with Blake and learn from one of the best d-men to play in the NHL.:cool:

I wouldn't be at all surprised if he shacks up at Rob's place on the beach in Manhattan and spends the summer training with and learning from him.:)

Look out next year!:eek:

At least 10 games constitute 1 NHL season. Here's the applicable CBA section:



(d) (i) In the event that an 18 year old or 19 year old Player signs an SPC
with a Club but does not play at least ten (10) NHL Games in the first season under that
SPC, the term of his SPC and his number of years in the Entry Level System shall be
extended for a period of one (1) year, except that this automatic extension will not apply
to a Player who is 19 according to Section 9.2 by virtue of turning 20 between September
16 and December 31 in the year in which he first signs an SPC. Unless a Player and Club
expressly agree to the contrary, in the event a Player's SPC is extended an additional year
in accordance with this subsection, all terms of the SPC, with the exception of Signing
Bonuses, but including Paragraph 1 Salary, games played bonuses and Exhibit 5 bonuses,
shall be extended; provided, however, that the Player's Paragraph 1 Salary shall be
extended in all circumstances.

"NHL Games" means Regular Season Games and Playoff Games.
