WOW, what a class act. Great guy all the way. I'm sure many of my fellow HI members at some point yesterday during Hockey Day in Canada saw the featured story of Joe Juneau heading up north to Nunuvik to help bring around positive change to the communities up there through education and sport.

First off, I can not believe, nor did I know how bad the conditions were for these kids. Those are brutal and I can only hope since the publicity Juneau's hockey program recieved by having his story aired on national television that his cause only gains more from it.

Truly a gifted individual giving back to those less fortunate, he is single handedly turning around lives there. In one scene, he was talking to a what looked like a 12 year old and telling him that if he stops smoking, that'll increase his play dramatically.

Can't find anymore links right now, at the office and many sites are filtered.

Hope you all enjoyed the read.

That's what I love about Hockey Day In Canada. The rest of the world gets to see what goes on up there in the remote areas. You can tell Joey is still broken up about getting traded out of Boston. Usually guys are all about the money, but he was crushed when he left Boston. True class act right there.

First off - huge kudos to Juneau... the man is amazing and selfless, and what he's doing will change the lives of these kids. By actually being there and continuing to reinforce the positive role model, hopefully there won't be any backsliding.

As for the conditions... man, do I have stories I could tell you. We work for First Nations and Inuit companies across Canada, and that is common. While not quite third world cnditions, the disparity between what we enjoy and what's on reserve in our advanced Western Civilization is probably even more startling.

There's been lots of programs that try to solve the problems by throwing money at it, but until someone immerses themself in it like Joey has, you don't see the results. I just wish there were more guys like him.

Yeah I had no idea how much he stretched himself out. Between him and close and small group of individuals I think there are 14 different communities!
