Kings sign Willie Mitchell

This is bittersweet. At least my other favorite team ended up with him

Also...if the verbal agreement is true and the Kings have offered him 3.5 mil per...damn, I think that's more than anybody else was willing to pay him.

I think because Green is out for 3 to 4 months the Kings had to make sure they didn't lose out on another signing. besides somebody needs to teach JJ how to play defense haha

As long as he stays healthy it is a good signing. Mitchel is one of those guys who plays hard, blocks shots etc which makes it hard for him to avoid injuries.

I don't think you'll find many Canuck fans that actually wanted Mitchell back (I know of none myself). I think you will find that he is well respected among the team and their fans...but there is a reason he didn't re-sign...he's damaged goods.

Willie is a GREAT stay at home D-man, but he is/was no longer needed in Van. We have a much stronger and healthier defense now than we had last year. I wish him well in LA. His "stay at home" style will enable others to have a bit more offensive style of play this year. However...one solid check, and his career could be done. I don't think anyone really let on just how bad his concussion really was.

I love Willie, and would've loved for him to stay - however, given the fragility after a very severe concussion, I'm perfectly willing to have him go. I hope he does well in LA and stays healthy, and will be watching if/when LA plays Pittsburgh.

Kevin

When is the first (only?) Kings/Pens game?

Good luck to Willie. One of the best stay-at-home D-men in the league. If he can stay healthy, he will be a great addition to the Kings D.

I may be in the minority, but i loved Willie. If you watch him exclusively on a shift he is 100 percent commited to defensive play, great in front of his own net, always plays against the other teams best & manage's a good plus/minus.

I will miss him :(

High five...bout time someone else is with me on this one. I'd rather have seen the Canucks give that money to post-concussion Willie Mitchell than Raffi Torres and Manny Malhotra. Brown pride or not, I still can't believe Manny's making that much over the next THREE years.

Manny jobbed the canucks bigtime. Remeber you heard it here first. Manny's point totals for this upcoming year 11 goals 15 assists for 2.5 mil.

He must have pictures of gillis blowing goats :)

I still think it's a conspiracy and his signing is a marketing ploy to get more butts in the seats. I hear they're going to plaster him as the face of the franchise in Surrey Canucks marketing. :D

By the way...I'm guessing donkey show photos...he got a no trade clause out of it too don't forget.

Manny is a case of the numbers only tell half the story.

He is an excellent face off man (one of the best in the league) and he is an elite penalty killer. So sure maybe he only gets 25-35 points but he does quite a bit that doesn't appear on the score sheet. Those 2 I just mentioned won't contribute to point totals but they are damn necessary to win games and he's great at both of them.

He's one of the best 3rd line centers in the league.

It's sort of laughable for me to say this to Canuck fans...but we had Brendan Morrison in his prime playing that same role and he was capable of first line minutes for that price tag.

My problem isn't with Manny Malhotra and his playing style itself...it's with the amount of money he's receiving AND the no trade clause, though the latter is basically a flimsy excuse for security nowadays given that so many players are being asked to wave theirs.
