Kovalchuk named Captain of the Atlanta Thrashers

Hopefully he will re-sign this summer and become a lifelong Thrasher.:dance:

I'm happy that he's the captain, but I'm sorry; that team needs to lose, lose, lose some more, and disband. Imagine Kovalchuk's impact on a team with a full roster of NHL-caliber players. Heck, even put him on a line in Phoenix and he'll score 60 easily. Will never show his true scoring potential until he has a good setup man (like Hossa) and a cast of other true NHL-capable players

I agree. I am hoping D-Wad starts trading off verterans like Marty Reasoner, Nic Havelid, Mathieu Schneider, Jason Williams, Eric Perrin, Eric Boulton, and Johan Hedberg. Their goal should be to get the 1st overall pick in 2009 and get Tavares.

Add to that Bryan Little, Colby Armstrong, Slava Kozlov, Erik Christensen, Zach Bogosian, Toby Enstrom, Boris Valabik, and a healthy Kari Lehtonen.
Also in the pipeline....Spencer Machacek, Riley Holzapfel, Arturs Kulda, Ondrej Pavelec, Grant Lewis, and Niclas Lasu, the Thrashers could one day become competitive....

But Tavares has got to be a top priority

I feel sorry for Kovy down there in Atlanta. Management has given him no help down there at all. Only 1 playoff trip ever in franchise history. It will be interesting if he tests the market.
