60 years ago last night, Vernon’s Larry Kwong suited up for the Rangers and broke the race barrier in the Montreal Forum.

Not wanting Kwong’s 60th anniversary to be ignored by the league like his 50th was, I shot off emails to the Rangers, Flames, Canucks, as well as NHL Diversity.

Stephanie Maniago of the Canucks replied:

“Thanks for the e-mail. We have provided the information to NHL.com and hope that we can get vast exposure on such a trailblazer.”

Writer Tom Hawthorn has also been campaigning hard for some recognition for Kwong.

Yesterday, the Rangers posted:

rangers.nhl.com/team/app/?service=page&page=NewsPage&articleid=356735

The article includes some great pics from the Ranger archives.

Finally, the Calgary Flames have announced that they will honour Larry on March 20 vs. the Avalanche. He’s thrilled, but half-joked: “I think they were shamed into it.”

Now, if one of the card companies would just come around….

Happy collecting,

Chad

Chad, it's great to see you here.
I give you a hearty pat on the back for your efforts.

Your actions transcend a mere interest in the hobby or the game... crusading to have important voices from the past heard so they can be a living history and an example to today's generation is inspiring.

Keep it up and let us know how things are going from time to time.

Michael.
