Leafs Trade Optimus Reim to the Sharks.

Maybe they want to use more pieces in another trade to get more picks. The bottom line for them is draft picks. In this one they got one. I have no insight into Stalock or Ben Smith. I will let others far more knowledgeable than I to chime in on this.

My opinion is he wasn't in their future plans so why not move him for some sort of asset. As far as the return there must not have been many better offers on the table. Can't imagine the market for back up goalie rental is that high.

They kept Bernier and shipped out Reimer, wow. Maybe they plan to draft Carter Hart as their future go to guy? :)

Lamoriello wants a better look at Sparks and Bibeau

After trading away James Reimer to the Sharks, Maple Leafs general manager Lou Lamoriello says they made the move so they could get a better sense of what they have in Garret Sparks and Antoine Bibeau. He also suggested some players they've traded could return in free agency.

You'd think that if they made a deal earlier than Monday that it would have a wow factor. Seems like they could have gotten same or more if they waited, no?

Sad that he is gone, I was a big fan, but these things have to be done. Deep down, I wanted the other one to go, but maybe they aren't yet done? Stalock was suppose to be good, but he lost his job to Jones this year.

Lets go Cubs!!!:beer::beer:I need a break
from this NHL season.

On a side note,I don't think it's a good idea to
bring Sparks or Bibeau into this cluster this year.
Their confidence will be shot for ever more. One
more year of Bernier that beast, shoot me now.Jesus,
Peter Ing would be an upgrade right now.

Before the Toronto Maple Leafs traded goaltender James Reimer to the San Jose Sharks, there was in fact an attempt to sign the pending unrestricted free agent to a deal.

As reported by Sportsnet’s Damien Cox on this week’s Headlines, the asking price from the Reimer camp was too high for the Leafs, leading to their decision to move on.

“There were brief contract negotiations between the Leafs and the goaltender during the season,” said Cox. “But when the asking price came in at $6 million per season, the Leafs said, ‘No thanks.’ and decided to trade him.”

Interesting if this is true? I like Reimer, but $6 million a year, umm no thanks. Not worth that much money, he's gonna see that this summer. Some talk that he may possibly be back in Toronto as a free agent signing this summer, but he's gonna have to come down in his asking price quite a bit, IMO. $4.4, or $5 million tops is what I am guessing?

Reimer was a UFA, and since he did not have super awesome stats, and is probably seen as a back up in the league, nobody was willing to give a whole lot more.

The high asking price could be his way of saying, You need to pay me a whole of cash to go through what I just went through these past few years.
