Looking for Jonathan Cheechoo Base Card Donations for Kids!

Hi Everyone,

The Little NHL hosted by the Moose Cree FN is taking place March 11th-15th. Jonathan Cheechoo is the honorary chair for this yrs event. I am collecting Cheechoo cards to donate to the tournament for kids to have signed. Please let me know if you can contribute! PM me for further information.

Very cool Naim. My daughter plays in this tournament (well, she did until she had to retire from hockey this year due to concussion issues). Heck, I even played in it when I was a kid - it's been around that long!

I will be there helping coach a girls team that is mixed with Moose Cree and Chippewas of Nawash girls in the Bantam age group. If I can help in anyway, let me know... I don't have any Cheechoo base cards left though as I've long since given them away.

I don't have any personally but I will check around to see if folks around here do. Such an awesome thing that you're doing for the kids!!!
 
It's too bad the NHL/ NHLPA and their licensed card maker couldn't support this tournament. Over 150 teams last year... somewhere over 2000 kids playing, all of indigenous descent. A card set featuring the former NHL players that was handed out to each player would be awesome.

Bryan Trottier, Reggie Leach, Fred Sasakamoose, Cheechoo, Ted Nolan and Stan Jonathon are all appearing. Chris Simon, Brandon and Jordan Nolan have also appeared in the past. I'm hopeful they find a way to get Brigette Lacquette here too!

In their defense, though, this is the first I'm hearing of this. Of all of the bad things that can be said about UD and their practices, their one shining light has been Chris Carlin, who has been excellent at community outreach on their behalf. It might be worthwhile to talk to him for next year's tournament and see if a card set featuring players of aboriginal descent can be made for this event.

Hey Ryan - I wasn't intending to badmouth UD on this, just stating it would be nice if it was on the radar and someone took the opportunity to get something done. Given that the NHL Alumni and Hockey Hall of Fame are aware and involved in the event, I'd say it would be more in the NHL/PA court, though we are then talking retired players, so there is that aspect too of getting permission, and then the cost of production. Even if UD could dust off an old card of the players and stamp it with LNHL 2018 Edition or some such, they could keep production costs down.

Each year in the goodie bag the kids receive (or at least for the past 6 years or so) there is a team bag of base cards included (not from UD - these are aftermarket grab bag type things), so it's not a big step to go the next level.

Thanks for all the input everyone! Base cards for all the kids would be sick!

If anyone is able to find any Cheechoos please let me know. I will be sending out the package on March 5th to Toronto for the tournament. If it's easier for you to send directly to the organizer of the tournament just let me know. I have his hotel address as he will be there from March 6th-16th.

So far collected close to 400 Cheechoo cards with a big donation of 298 cards from Bean's Ballcard Blog & his followers from Twitter. If anyone else can or would like to donate any Cheechoo base cards please let me know ASAP as the tournament is fast approaching. I will probably be sending them out on March 1st or 2nd to ensure they reach their destination on time. Another option is to send directly to the organizer's hotel in Toronto as I have the address.
