I've been thinking for a while that I would like to do an autograph collection of the great players of the game over time. Looking for some ideas on what benchmarks to place on this for Forwards, D-men and Goalies.

Initial thinking is a number of goals benchmark for Forwards, number of points for D-men and Wins for goalies. Just wanted to toss this out and get some input to help me decide.

Thanks in advance :)

Do a search and where most thought of renaming the NHL trophies. That would be a good place to start as those names are some of the elite over the past 40 years or so

It's not going to be cheap!

Just think of all the older retired and deceased players who are available only on cut autos. Most of those are going to cost you a pretty penny!

Some good ideas here, appreciate the replies. One of the things I was having trouble with was figuring out how many wins if I went with that for goalies, to narrow it to.

300 wins is manageable for a goalie project but Sawchuk and Plante will be the toughest. Of course Burke will be the most expensive.

Rank Player W
1. Martin Brodeur 655
2. Patrick Roy* 551
3. Ed Belfour* 484
4. Curtis Joseph 454
5. Terry Sawchuk* 447
6. Jacques Plante* 437
7. Tony Esposito* 423
8. Glenn Hall* 407
9. Grant Fuhr* 403
10. Chris Osgood 401
11. Dominik Hasek 389
12. Mike Vernon 385
13. John Vanbiesbrouck 374
14. Andy Moog 372
15. Tom Barrasso 369
16. Rogie Vachon 355
17. Roberto Luongo 338
18. Gump Worsley* 335
19. Harry Lumley* 330
20. Nikolai Khabibulin 328
21. Sean Burke 324
22. Evgeni Nabokov 312
23. Miikka Kiprusoff 311
24. Billy Smith* 305
25. Olaf Kolzig 303
26. Turk Broda* 302
27. Mike Richter 301

I think trying to pick up an Auto of all HOFers would be amazing, but as stated some are either only available in Cuts or non card autos. You could always buy cuts and have customs done up... Anyway, no matter what this would be a fun project.

IMO the 500 goals and 300 win projects are overdone.

For goalies I would look at either the 30 or 40 career shutout milestone. Some crossover of names but also a few different names

Forwards... How about the top 25 on the list that matters most - game-winning goals

D-men, Id try the top 25 in +/- for their career

Try "Living hall of famers" - Outside of a few big names you should be able to afford most of them fairly easy.
