Can't wait until the flood of 99/100's and 4/100's start hitting eBay!

Kudos Upper Deck!

Jay relax, it's not like its from a popular player or anything... ;)

Funny because Orr is signing again for UD and you see Orr auto's everywhere even older issues popping up. Makes you wonder when that replacement was even signed now.

lol, ya not at all... who's.. is it bobby orr:D

I should bid on it and start an unnumbered set with my Howe! I guess the good news for me is that people seem to be bidding on these and aren't worried about the authenticity, maybe I can sell that Howe.

Hello.

I must agree, this is sort of scary. However with that being said, I think this is only the beginning of this huge wave of un-numbered cards that are goin to be released as replacement cards. Because honestly, how many of these cards are sitting at Upper Deck as we speak ?!?!?!

I guess the only upside to this, is that collectors might be able to add a rare card that hasn't appeared online for quite some time to their collections :o

Cheers,
Eli

To me, the bad part about this is that the "authentic" ones are hand-numbered. If it were a crash numbered set, then you know it's a "replacement stock" card. I see no problem with UD using the unnumbered backstock for sets that were crash numbered, but for hand-numbered sets, they should stamp them or something to insure the original print run stays the same. Just my opinion, ignore as needed.... Mike

I think the real savvy hobbyists (see this board) can differentiate between the two so, really, no biggie in my mind? Besides, you're not buying the card Jason right? So............?

And like Eli, Keith, others said, it's chance for some peeps to grab a card maybe they never could at an affordable rate.

I dunno, I think we all get too anxious to throttle UD at every turn. I know I have been guilty of jumping the gun on ocassion:o ......most of this stuff will never end and is really out of our control no matter how much we gripe.

The only way to show UD your displeasure is to stop buying. Now we all know that ain't happening much around.;)

Also, the more we piss and moan, the more likely we are to alienate good guys like Karvin and Chad, dudes that are hobbyists at heart and actually give a fizzie about us.

So there ya have it peeps, from tha B's prespective.

Barrie - While I appreciate your senitment about me not personally buying these "unnumbered" cards... I do OWN several of the REAL numbered copies that were in packs. Therefore, that means a couple of things:

1. It totally ruins the integrity of the print run. As Mike stated, these are HAND numbered cards, so it is easy for some clown to take a sharpie to the card and number it themself.

2. It causes concern for those who might see both numbered and unnumbered versions on the market. Someone not savvy enough might think the unnumbered version is the real pack-issued copy.

3. It could deflate the value of these cards if a whole bunch of them show up on the market at the same time due to mass replacements. We've seen it many times recently... Evolve Autos, Ovechkin Black Diamond, etc.

I agree that it is a nice opportunity for collectors to pick up an autograph of these players (possibly) cheaper. However, I have a problem when the integrity of the set/release is put into question.

It's not just the Epic Signatures Gold either. I've seen it from at least 3 sets so far:

Epic Signatures Gold - So far, I've seen Orr, Gretzky, and Howe unnumbered

UD Ice Jersey Auto - Seen a Spezza (on HI) that should have been numbered /35

Beehive RFF Auto - Saw an Iginla (on Beckett) that should have been numbered /25

I thought about #1, but decided it wasn't worth mentioning. I figured it would be very tough to number it in not only the correct fashion that the original person at UD used but also the ink would be much bolder than the original pen used years ago and there would be a distinct difference.

#3? Thought of that one as well but didn't want to mention it for fear you'd say I was insinuating you are a money mongrul or greenback grubber and only in the hobby for the $$$$.:p

All kidding aside, points taken, but, as I said in the aformentioned, UD will always "win" in the end.

We "need" them and they, well, they "have" us. We're all addicts in this cardboard crack game.:o

I think the bigger problem with this kind of stuff is, and it is just my IMO, but not only does it bring into question the integrity of a numbered set...I mean, if the set is out of /99...then I would expect only 99 cards to be produced, and not 99...plus whatever they decide to make because they got themselves into a huge hole producing far too many cards they couldn't pack out...whether by their own doing or by the fact athletes wouldn't return stuff. I trust UD as much as I would trust I would trust someone trying to sell me prime real estate in the swamps of NJ.

If I was a set builder and was trying to complete that set, it would aggravate me to no end that un-numbered versions were popping up as replacements to redemptions they couldn't full-fill...to me it would totally tarnish the set.

The fact is, for most of the hobby....UD has completely lost any credibility, and they will never with most get that back...they can send 600 more pawns to do their bidding...but they all be just another Carlin that comes and spews the company line and whines about how many hours they work because they have the collector in mind...will never buy that line from anyone in that company...but that is just one mans opinion.

just to add, there was a Orr retro Inkredibles autograph that was supposed to be numbered to 25, with no number recently on ebay.

it didn't have the standard blue border around the player and autograph.

There was a Tretiak Inkredible Un-numbered Gold listed on the bay no too long ago as well.
