I already own a BVG 8.5 Topps RC. I figured get the O-Pee-Chee one to go side by side with it, but was not willing to pay $1000 for a 8 and it just escalates from there. Then while browsing for a OPC Gretzky RC, I figured out that there is a first print version with blue parallel "skate" lines just under the cartoon hockey player on the back. So naturally, I wanted that version which for the most part is harder to find than the version without these lines. I saw a "first print run" OPC Gretzky RC graded BVG 7.5 sell for $960. Anyways, after waiting patiently, along came a BCCG 8, first print run, OPC RC. Now my Topps BVG 8.5 was originally a BCCG 9 that was just undervalued and under-graded. This OPC one I found is also I believe slightly under-graded as well, with solid centering, good edges, and a nice surface. The corners are worn some, and thus the 8 on the bccg scale. Take a look as I scanned the back where you can see faintly the blue lines under the hockey player:
Next, it will be headed to BGS for official slabbing, but the absolute best possible scenario would be a 6.5 or so, which is 1.5 points higher than 5 or excellent on the grading scale. It was mainly about the price point, so I am happy with it. Thanks, sorry for the long read
