Well with the trade deadline coming up in a few days it's about time that this get thrown up to keep the clutter down.

Jordan Leopold has been traded from Buffalo to St. Louis for a 2nd round pick, and a conditional 5th round pick. The pick becomes a 4th rounder if the Blues win a playoff round.

Marian Gaborik practiced on the fourth line yesterday, a clear sign that Torts is saying "I don't want him here anymore." I'd say his low production will see him shipped out before the deadline. As long as he goes anywhere but Montreal or Boston :D

Boston would be interested in Gaborik, but I doubt NYR would send him there.

What about back to Minnesota?

I'd like to see the Kings take a shot, but he'd have to be cheap or they would have to eat some salary.

He makes $7.5 million I believe, and he's signed through next season too so whoever trades for him needs to be willing to swallow the cap hit for at least one full season.

I don't think Gaborik is going anywhere, but the Blues have a ton of cap space and the Wings have room to play with. Gaborik would fit in nicely on both teams.

The Hawks have to get another center. Bolland has no confidence this year, and the Hawks are in desperate need of a second line center. I know Toews is talked about as one of the top centers/players in the league, but without Hossa he is struggling. Hossa is the guy who really makes that line work, and doesn't get the credit he deserves. Kane is carrying the team offensively, and he's doing it without a good center. Give him someone to work with and Kane might be challenging Crosby for the scoring title right now.

isn't there a provision in the new CBA that teams can eat some of the cap hit? i'm pretty sure i saw that.

and if not, they could always buy him out at the end of the year. i know there's a provision for that.

for instance, if NYR wanted to move him, they could take a guy back like Penner and his salary because he's an UFA at the end of the year. then the Kings can pick up to 2 players to buy out at the end of the year for a lesser cap hit (i believe).

if they move Gaborik, the Rangers will be in pretty good shape next year. might be worth it to them to move him for a couple of cheaper assets (and potentially an expiring contract) to clear the space. Clearly, Tortorella isn't a fan.

i would think the Hawks would be interested in Derek Roy - i don't know if they could fit in his salary but he seems like a good fit for them.

They can only pay money towards the current years salary I believe. That's what the original comment about paying a full season's salary was about. And I don't believe that Gabby would be a buyout candidate, especially if he were traded.

why wouldn't you buy out Gaborik? from what i understand, they can be bought out during this last season (redden and gomez) and this offseason and it doesn't count against the cap. 2 players per team.

$7.5 is a huge chunk of the cap - if NYR keeps Gaborik, i would be very surprised if they didn't buy him out. so instead, try and trade him and get something for him, even if you have to kick in some salary for this year.

Gaborik is not anywhere near a $7.5M player right now, especially with Tortorella as his coach.

if a team with lots of cap room traded for him then maybe they would keep him. but i have to think teams will take advantage of the provision to buy out. but i could be totally wrong - we'll see.

I think they want more size up the middle. I believe they tried to deal for Boyes, and I heard they have interest in Chipchura but Kyle isn't really an upgrade over Bolland. Boyes would be a decent fit, there just aren't that many good centers available unless you want to take a massive contract off someone's hands, and even then they want two high level prospects and a first round pick in return. There are a ton of wingers out there, which is why you can get Iginla and Morrow for what the Pens gave up.

I have to disagree, Bolland is just fine as a #2 center. You have to remember that this is the first time in a bunch of years that he is on a scoring line and not a shut down line. Hossa and Sharp will be back before the playoffs start so I believe that the Hawks will not make any big trades before the deadline.

TSN is reporting that Chicago was talking to the Islanders about Lubomir Vishnovsky before he re-signed. The report goes on to say that the Hawks are looking hard for some defense support.

some guy in the dressing room joked that kessel got traded for gaborik and a pick today. i almost believed him.

I would be surprised if they went after a defenseman, but nothing would really shock me I guess. They have a solid core of 4 with Keith, Seabrook, Leddy, and Hjalmarsson. Oduya isn't bad as a 5th, he does make some bad mistakes at times but for a 5th he's pretty good. Roszival and Brookbank are fine as the 6th, they also have Montador who is fine as a 6th and looks to be healthy finally. If they wanted more scoring they have a good kid in Rockford who is playing lights out in Adam Clendening, and Shawn LaLonde has been playing well also. The Hawks are looking for another center, problem is everyone wants Clendening, LaLonde, Olsen, Pirri, Morin, Hayes, Shaw and the Hawks don't want to give them up.

I am happy to see Morin get called up, Shaw has done well in his role, Hayes still looks too tentative, but with the injuries every year I cannot understand why they don't give Martin St Pierre a chance to show what he can do in the NHL. The guy is a scorer, and has produced at every level he's played at. He is short but he's solid and does not get pushed around. I think the guy could do well if they gave him a real shot, and would be more productive then Hayes. Plus, he's a center and good in the faceoff circle. I would love to see what he could do on a line with Kane and maybe Bolland or Shaw on the wing.

As a Leafs fan AND a Gaborik fan, I would have been okay with that :D

Just curious, why are Leaf fans so down on Kessel? He's second on the team in scoring, leads them in power play points and shots, and IMO he's the guy helping JVR succeed right now. He's just under a point per game player. I would take him in a heartbeat, I know he's a minus player right now, but if there was anyone to be unhappy with it should be Grabovski. He's the second highest salary and cap hit behind Phaneuf, he's second worst in +/- only Holzer is worse, and he's 9th on the team in scoring. Even Cody Franson has more points then Grabo, and Gunnarson who has played in 8 less games is only 1 point behind him in scoring. For what he's being paid he is a huge disappointment in my opinion, $6 million dollars a year is a huge waste of money for that production.

Clowe is close to Montreal as the scout director of SJ was in Boston and Montreal in the last days.
Clowe possible: Boston, Montreal, Rangers or Wild.
Montreal rumours: Jagr for a 2nd pick as MTL got 3 2nd pick this year.

With Murray gone to Pitts, Bouwmeester value just went up for the trade deadline!
