So nothing will probably compare the shield from last month in the near future, but this still feels like a pretty solid mail month. October saw the release of one of my big yearly projects, O-Pee-Chee. This mail call won't include all of the Avs OPC project, it's big enough for it's own post, which is coming up next. But I also made considerable progress towards the other three sets I'm really working right now. Thanks to miscs75 for a big, awesome trade and antoine38 for tracking down some nice stuff off my wantlist.
So here comes October, non-hockey first:
1991 Stadium Club Super Bowl XXVI Dennis Smith
You might not be able to see it, but there's an embossed XXVI logo on the top right of the card. That's probably part of the reason I've had such a hard time finding them, I still need the Atwater from the same set.
Bowman and Bowman Chrome Rockies Rookies
I had too much money in my COMC account again, and got in a Rockies phase for a couple days. Although they're extremely frustrating to watch as a team, they've got some amazing individual talents. There's a couple Purple refractors thrown in as well, since that's a pretty rare color for parallels and the Rockies primary color.
2002 Studio Stars Gold /250 Todd Helton
Besides sports cards, I'm obsessed with credit cards. I never carry a balance on them, I just love maximizing the rewards. So when those hobbies intersect, I'm all about it. Ian Laperriere has a similar hockey card, and I just happened across this one. While looking up the actual set, I realized this is the gold copy, and there's a regular and Platinum /50 one to chase too.

I like Avs GU cards of players that don't get a ton of them, especially 2-color ones. And the O'Reilly came in a trade from miscs75.

I'm done with this set, but Tim (TurcoCollector3) pointed these out before they were listed correctly on COMC. For a buck or two a piece, I'll buy these all day.

Somehow I missed this card when it first came out. Mueller had a sig in the regular set as well, so I wasn't searching for him. Then I saw a picture of this on eBay one day and didn't recognize it. I just feel like the picture is really weird the way it's sized and centered. It looks unprofessional, like he's a little kid. Whatever, now I have it. And I realized I was missing the Update Retro of Varly, but that one is still sitting at COMC for me.

Another three cards from Bryan (lucky19). I haven't added many cards to the Avs BAP autos lately, so these are very welcome. I don't remember ever seeing a copy of this dual, and I have no idea how it took so long to find.

I always appreciate the Avs additions even more, and Blake can be an honorary one with Joe and Chris. The next two were courtesy of Kevin (kmitchel) and finally another of the 10 Gretzkys.

More Avs - the Sakic from Bryan as well. I'm 99% sure I'll never finish this set, but it'll be fun to try.

So I last month that I might finish this set. I'm really close, but most of them are still sitting at COMC. Maybe next month.

These all came in from a great trade with miscs75. He was looking for a bunch of Victory base and inserts, and I have tons. In return, I took some of his parallels off his hands. And he hooked me up with some OPC stuff and a couple other nice pieces. It was definitely the largest, most complicated trade I've completed so quickly. There were some newer Golds as well, but these are my faves.

Two of these were from him as well! I think I'm over 60/100 on this set now.

Three Swedes to start off the set this month. This was the only copy I could find of any of them.

A few more. The Rypien was selling pretty well, but I grabbed this one in a nice trade on another site.

This was my 2nd favorite piece from a purchase from antoine38. He contacted me after reading a previous mail post and offered up a card you'll see later. Then he went above and beyond, checking all my wantlists with a fine-tooth comb. Came up with this one and a bunch of nice set needs, including the other Champ's Red and Yellow above.
2011-12 ITG Enforcers Tough Franchises Red /10 Quebec/Colorado - Hunter/Odgers/Cummins/McCormick
This is the last card I needed for Cody from Enforcers, since Steve already locked up the Tough Patch. Took awhile, but I'm done with that set now.

More tough guy stuff, from the same seller (bet you can guess who...). I don't usually do show stamped stuff, but it was only $10 and I was already paying shipping for the previous card. Same with the Simon, I said I wasn't going to his parallels this year (Enforcers Red, ITGU Gold), but it was too cheap to pass up.
2013-14 Panini National Treasures Crazy 8's Jerseys /50 - Number 8s - Ovechkin/Selanne/Pavelski/Doughty/Prust/McCormick/Tanev/Trouba
Here's one that I never saw on the checklist and never showed up in my eBay searches either. Cody's name wasn't in the title ever with all the other guys on this card. But I saw the /5 patch version on COMC and bought this one. Still need the Prime /25 and that Patch /5, but I'm not in a huge hurry just yet. After my first shield last month, this is my first PC booklet card. Cool stuff.

Just kidding, this guy never played for the Avs. But he did play for the Colorado Eagles and Denver Cutthroats. And it's the signature piece from antoine38. And besides 1/1s, it finishes off my collection of him. These are tough to find, I only have 3/10 for my Avs RC collection.

Always nice to grab a Rainbow Cup RC of the runner-up for the Vezina and 4th for the Hart. I've seen quite a few copies of this one, but this was the first at a price I wanted to pay. Still need three more of Varly.

Another double of Palushaj, I have a serious problem accidentally buying 2nd copies of his cards.

MacKinnon stuff is always nice to land, even if it's a measly Score RC. Doesn't look much like an 18 year old with the weird shadows and shield.

Speaking of what people look like in pictures, I think this is Duchene no matter how many times I see it. Down to just needing the Mirror Red version of this to have all 7 jersey parallels now.

It's amazing how much better the Mirror versions of these cards scan, helping to make the sticker not stand out so much as well. Two more for Pickard.
2014-15 O-Pee-Chee Paul Carey - Base, Retro, Rainbow, Black Rainbow /100 & Red
Here's the first of my 14-15 RC haul, from one of my favorite sets. Paul played 12 games with the Avs last year, but I wouldn't complain if he doesn't get a ton more cards. They already left him out of Artifacts and UD1, so I might get my wish. Either way, still need the darn Blank Back.
2014-15 O-Pee-Chee Joey Hishon - Base, Retro, Rainbow, Black Rainbow /100, Red & Blank Back
And the other Avs RC in 2014-15 OPC, Joey Hishon. He was our first round draft pick between Landy and MacKinnon, but his career was derailed a little bit by jerkface McNabb. He saw some playoff action last year though, and earned some RCs. Still hasn't played a regular season game. I've actually landed two copies of the Blank already too, one for the Avs OPC collection I'll show off soon.

It's been awhile since I've landed one of these Buybacks. Here's the Gold version for Lappy. I'd pretty much kill for either Brett Clark or Adam Foote from 98-99. And still need the Silver of Lappy as well. Oh, and three Brunos.

Never really planned to actually land this one, but a seller on eBay accepted a fair offer on something that was listed way too high for once. Only need Barrie stuff numbered to 10 or less now. I think it's actually my first auto'd Black from Artifacts overall as well.

I needed four cards from 05-06 SPGU, and this is the first I've actually landed. Still need the patch variation of this, and both Avs quads including Foote. A motley group of players to be sure, but it's the first copy I've seen since I started collecting him.

So yeah, when I said I was taking this set seriously, here's the proof. My first auto of both of them. Gets me down to needing 16 more and I've got 4 of those on the way now. If people want to keep an eye out at the expo, I would much appreciate it. Here's the list of what I still need. Not promising the card numbers are correct, but it's what Beckett shows.

2011-12 Panini Certified Mirror Emerald /5 Gabe Landeskog
There's one seller on eBay trying to sell Landy stuff for crazy prices. But this one started with a low minimum and I won it for 20% of what the other seller wanted. Landy's stuff has really dropped, especially with MacKinnon hitting the shelves, but it still means just as much to me. It's also the most limited one I've got of him except for the Titanium Draft Parallel /2. :dance:
