Check out Ebay auction Item #230250697437 - This is a current AO Cup Rookie #96/99 auction only hours into the auction. I thought of buying this card as the patch is super nice and the buy it now price seemed very reasonable.. and maybe too good to be true... (usually means it ain't true right?). Anyways I checked Jeremy's archive on Ovechkin's /99 to ensure it was legitimate and I was shocked to see not only a totally different patch and auto... but that the card in Jeremy's archive was graded a BGS 9.5, while this card was definitely ungraded and had a complete different patch and auto... The seller of the auction claims this AO rookie is 96/99 and it's hard to see cause the picture scanned is a little fuzzy by the serial number. Could this be an AO rookie /99 that not only the serial number has been altered some how and the patch altered as well.. or can it be possible the one in Jeremy's archive is fake? I've sent this issue to FakePatch Report already so I'll wait to see what Jeremey thinks. Anyways check it out for yourself on Ebay.. I'm curious what everyone else thinks. Cheers. Brad. :)

PS. Hey Jeremy u can scan the Crosby that I cracked out of a 05-06 Case a few months ago that I showed you at trade night a couple months ago (Use the link to my photobucket from this post.. I just added it)... You can add it to your archive ..........Sweet 2 color #30/99... I've been SUPER lucky .. I've cracked about approx 40 tins and now I can say I've cracked 2 Ovechkin's #11/99 & #40/99 and now cracked a Crosby #30/99.. but had to trade for my Phaneuf... (Thanks again Stephen) :)

all things aside this is what I advise people to do for Cup RC's:
buy 1 or 2 color patches.. or don't buy at all.. there are just too many fake patches out there right now its outrageous

I was also thinking of jumping on it as well....Either way it's not the same as Jermey's so I decided to hold off!!

It's sad to see that UD hasn't really adressed this issue yet whether it be with a photo archive or something to cover thier patches.....

First, I have not been allocating my time to the Fake Patch Report the way I would like to. I have a very demanding job and bit off more than I can chew with the site. With that, if anyone wants to help please let me know.

Second, there is a chance that the card in the archive is incorrectly labelled as 96/99. It certainly looks like that is the serial number on it but it may be wrong. When I label the cards in the archive I look at the scan, read the description and even ask the seller what the serial number is if it is not obvious but sometimes, the scan can still fool you.

That said, this is a weird situation because the patch in the archive is not weak at all such that the "alteration" is not very significant.

Finally, I have around 50 cards to add to the archive which I will do this weekend including Brad's "freed from slab" Crosby.

And Brad....congrats on your awesome luck!

Possible AO Fake

Well the card in question has been bought via "Buy It Now".. so it's done. Interestingly enough it was done thru private auction, so no one will know or warn the buyer that they may have bought $4300 fake. Whether or not it was legit or fake .. just the slight chance of it being fake thanks to Jeremy's archive was enough to keep me away. ... but I have a gut feel it is fake... Most people I would think would have listed that card with that kind of patch upwards of 5k.. so that combined with private auction makes me very skeptical it was legit. Cheers. Brad.
