First time I saw this.

Purchased a card on Ebay with 18.00 shipping to Canada or 3.00 to US. Rather than deal with buyer, I just changed my address to COMC mailbox, made offer which was accepted. Rec'd my Ebay generated invoice for Card + $3. When I clicked pay the invoice has Changed to card + $3 +$1 WA Sales Tax. Checked Mailbox item from Dec 20th and no tax there.

Any Thoughts?

its a new tax for the state of washington that went into effect january 1st. very glad i changed from using comc mailbox to getitshippedinternational.com, way cheaper than comc mailbox

hunh. I didn't even pick up on this.... but yeah. It seems like there's a 10% tax charged on item cost + s/h.

Going to make that mailbox even less useful. Will take a look getitshippedinternational.com (mentioned earlier in the thread).

If you go on their facebook page theres a code for a discount on their accounts
Basically it cost me 14$ every 3 months for as many package i want, not only cards i had boxes and jerseys semt to my box. Them you pay shipping from them to you when youre ready

Eventually all the states will have the extra tax charge. I'm not going to bother on finding an alternate mailbox service. Just cut down the buying is all...

Happy New Year! As a COMC Member who has utilized our Mailbox service in the past, we wanted to take a moment to tell you about some important United States legislation that may affect your buying experience when having items shipped to your COMC Mailbox.

As a business that operates in Washington State, orders shipped to a COMC Mailbox from some popular collectibles commerce website such as eBay are now subject to applicable sales tax. This tax is collected by the commerce website, and not individual sellers, and there is no way for sellers to change or remove sales tax from an invoice when the delivery address is within the state of Washington.

This is part of an email that I received late this afternoon from COMC.

Just bringing this back up to remind people. I almost got hit tonight when buying a card for $725 USD plus $9.99 shipping. eBay tried to nail me with $73.50 USD taxes to ship to my comc account. It was still cheaper than eBay's global shipping program. Seller wanted $40 and then another $142 import fees with the gsp. Seller agreed to do the deal off eBay and ship to my comc account, until after I paid, then he refunded me after I couldn't change my paypal address to my comc address. I understand as he likely wouldn't be covered, but it just sucked for both of us. It looks like my buying from the US will be very limited to non-existent going forward. Does anyone know if all states are taxed? Or just certain ones now with eBay?

I use shipito.com mailbox in OR state for years, free membership (if you don't want to consolidate many packages into one), no taxes, $2 processing fee and the cheaper and much faster alternative to a usual post service delivery right to the office that is actually located within 5 min walk away from my house in Mother Russia. I get cards in 7-10 days period from US for the cheaper price than USPS suggests to pay. I guess delivery services vary for different countries, but it's worth checking it.

PWCC is opening a similar service this year and they’re in Idaho which has no sales tax. I suspect they’ll be stealing A LOT of COMCs business.

Get It Shipped International has been gaining in popularity probably due to this. Much cheaper method. Too bad the international shipping thing is such a damn pain. Nothing worse than hearing discouraged buyers and sellers not wanting to deal international anymore.

Yes levied by the state of Washington.

And it will become more prevalent as states seek to recover taxes that are not currently being paid by citizens buying online. Not so much collectibles like our hobby, but retail goods from the Ebay's and Amazon's of the world.

Technically in the state of Michigan you are required to keep track of online purchases and list the amount of tax owed on your year-end Michigan taxes. With the passage of the Main Street Fairness Act (Michigan and at least 22 other states) you will be seeing more of this taxation. It is estimated that Michigan loses around $200 MILLION in taxes due to online sales!
