Possible Fake Hawks Patch Forger At It Again

those look legit too me. is this one of those "too good to be true so it has to be fake" or are these verified fakes?

Stuff like that makes me sick.......look at all of those cards that are going to be out on the market. I cant say they are fake for sure, but for 1 seller to have the best patch possible on that many cards? Seems HIGHLY unlikely............ I think I will stick to boring 1 or 2 colors.

you ever notice the big spenders and big breakers tend to have the best of alot of stuff? also, looking at his other patches, none of them scream fake to me. they're great patches but i've seen similar stuff before.

I've actually sold a bunch of really crazy nice Limited Logo patches to this guy about a year ago (The Neely in one of his auctions was mine once). He pays HUGE for the spectacular Limited Logos, as he definitely has the best patches out there for those sets!! I'm not sure he's fake patching them but maybe buying them unknowingly them from people who may have fake patched them or peole that habve picked them and filpped them a few times. A few seem really suspect as nowadays you never know what's legit and what isn't?

Before stones are cast - you may want to take a look through his ebay feedback.
He has bought a ton of high end cards from a lot of people that we recognize in the hobby. I know I sold them 2 cards in an off-ebay transaction.

Several of his purchases are from HI members - perhaps they still have a matching scan???

As far as poupouthe cat - isn't that a reference to Felix Potvin???

Unless people have some sort of tangible proof that a card has a fake patch they shouldn't make posts. Just because a card has a great patch doesn't mean it's fake and we're not helping the hobby by implying that.

I'm really starting to get tired of these posts that have no comparisons or examples of why they're fake or any evidence of any kind. People who start these posts without any offer of proof should receive one week vacations.

If the OP has some proof now would be a really good time to present it.

I suppose so.....I guess if a guy has been collecting insane patches or wins them at auction knowing he can list them BIN/BO and probably make money. I think you are right, a small time collector like me sees that many of those kinds of patches and thinks "too good to be true"

My mistake for being quick to judge.

I must admit I am too quick to judge on this one. The thing is the patch looks identical to the one on the Kane Cup RC that is infamous and I thought the concensus was that the card was fake. Someone said that it came from a cap or something like that.

It just doesn't look right to me but what do I know. I would say I can count the number of truly sick patch cards that I possess on one hand, and this seller appears to be a big time collector/dealer.

anyway, I apologize. I should have kept my opinion to myself.
If i could I would change the title of the thread to "possible" fake patch or if real truly amazing cards.

I still have a small scan of my "too good to be true" Toews LL, and sold it to one of our members here.

Had I not received it right from UD, I would have thought it was a fake.

I am not going to pass judgement on this one at all.

The copy I got looks to be one away from the one shown in the auction.

I think if you had put the title as what you suggest now and also included the information about how you thought it looked like one of the baseball hat patch pieces the post would have been better received.

Hard to say on these ones... there were some really nice patches from that set, but I think the older ones are questionable. It wouldn't surprise me if he bought them altered without knowing about them. Look at the Thornton, Howe, Malkin & Kovalchuk. In fact, I think the Malkin was on our watch list when we did up the Patch Forger report... but couldn't compare it to an original.

Dunno what to say about these other than that.

your skepticism isn't unfounded as we have all heard these stories now. the ones where the material came from a cap was the Cup RC /99 and the material used in the patch was clearly distinguishable from authentic patch pieces. personally, the reason i said these 2 cards weren't screaming fake was that the material used in the patches of these 2 cards matches what's been seen on youtube breaks and other HI members pulls.

Some of this deals with my complant toward these high dollar sets. They generally have the best swatches (no not always) but probably 2 to one, the cup, ult & black (I'm calling them bla-cu-pult from now on) have larger patch cards, with beter hits, maybe I'm wrong and the plain ones just don't make it to ebay.

I bought three Logos from this seller offline and they are both beautiful as well. He did tell me at the time that he was all over the Limited Logos when they came out - a very nice guy who seemed to genuinely like his cards. He had "average looking" Gretzky and Brodeur Logos, and his prices were fair. Maybe the ones listed are all he has left?

06/7 Lmited Logos used ACTUAL LOGO PIECES, so on those I don't think there is any reason to be alarmed.

The 07/8 cards were, as pointed out above, redemptions, so who knows... the Hawks have mental jerseys for patches, you'd have to figure something like those would exist... I haven't seen number or nameplate cuts in that year's set.
