Was focussed on actually getting my Expo post up, and then got lazy again, but thought I'd finally get this done.

By after Expo, I mean right after, stopped at the LCS to drop off some things on the way home from TO before even getting home, and of course after resisting the urge to crack all weekend, I broke down. First up were two boxes of Panini Classic Signatures - a strange choice, but I liked the looks of some of the auto inserts I saw at Expo, and the price is now reasonable - I think I'm actually going to lightly collect this set - not a serious chase, just grab 'em when I see 'em.

So, bought these for the 1 per box insert autos, first box wasn't great

Couldn't leave one last box on the shelf, so I had to open it, and special auto was....not a special auto, the box had 2 Bathgates in it - I got hosed.

So me and the owner had been having a chat about why UD1 was doing so much better than Select, and what Panini would have to do to compete. My perspective was that it was near impossible, as the perceived lack of secondary value hurts returns right out of the gate, and the secondary value just can't pick up. The big difference in popularity is just the ability to get your money back in any given box by hitting the big rookie - and that's basically a 1 in 8 shot, not counting all the other possible hits. So I decide to prove the theory, by cracking a UD1 box.

There's not much to show, as I hit the aforementioned MacKinnon, unfortunately it was the "faulty" one, still nice to hit though. Traded it and the rest of the hits including the header, for the price of the box. Well I did manage to keep the Pageau YG for my PC, as well as one other hit from the box.

Now this was a great box, but it's still back to proving that point. More importantly I just love the design of these cards. My only problem with them is that I love collecting Cup themed sets - but this type always annoys me as the player's in the set didn't necessarily win the cup. All that to say, I won't be doing this set.

Couple of days later I had another urge, picked up a couple of 11-12 Limited, didn't do too well.

Also did another box of Classics, this one was a far better result.

And then I did get the special auto this time, it's from one of my top 2 favorite sub-sets, it's one of the short prints, and it's jersey numbered :dance:

The design of the "Originals" set that Howe is from is one of the things that drew me to start picking these up, of course I love all of the designs, and that's dangerous!

The Hedberg isn't currently available as I'm holding onto these, but the spare Bathgate is, PM incoming.
