Boston Bruins leading scorer Marc Savard suffered a broken bone in his back after being cross-checked by Canadiens forward Steve Begin in Boston 3-2 loss Saturday in Montreal.

According to the Boston Herald, the cracked bone is called a transverse process, one that protrudes from a vertebra and serves to attach muscles and ligaments. Savard sat out Tuesday's 6-2 win at Toronto, and will miss at least one more game with the injury.

Wow, will sit out ONE more game... with a broken vertabra? I'd be surprised to see him back at all... thats amazing.

Not really. Depends on the severity of the fracture in the first place, as well as which vertebra.

I still can't believe that Begin never got called. It was more of a push than a crosscheck, but still, a penalty.

I fractured T11 & T12 on May 06, 2007.

I know I am not in as good of condition as an NHL hockey player, but there is no way that I could lace em' up.

Hope he is okay.
