It looks like the Tampa Bay Lightning will be wasting no time getting first overall draft pick Steven Stamkos under contract on Tuesday.
According to a report in the St. Petersburg Times, the Lightning will sign Stamkos to a standard rookie deal of three years at $875,000 annually on Tuesday. Stamkos can also earn as much $8.55-million in performance bonuses over the life of the contract. Under the NHL's Collective Bargaining Agreement, rookie salaries are based up the player's draft position.
