Mods, feel free to move/delete if this doesn't belong.

Full disclosure: I've never ordered from this store. I've never visited this store. I just enjoy watching the breaks.

That out of the way, if you've never heard of Titan cards, it's a shop in Florida, USA that would do personal breaks for people from products such as Magic:The Gathering, Pokemon, Marvel, some football and basketball and baseball, but their main seller was hockey.

Apparently, though, Upper Deck did not like the way they were selling their products on their website, and it seems that they basically told Titan that they were no longer allowed to sell boxes for personal breaks on their site any longer.

I'm not sure about what you all think, or if you have an opinion, but that's BS. Sure, rules are rules, but this is almost like they are going out of their way to find something wrong just to mess with the store. Ticky-tacky findings that UD really seems to be stretching to make findings about.

I don't really collect cards much anymore, but this really upsets me. Anyways, just wanted to show you all what UD is doing to the smaller stores, because basically they can.

I've ordered from the store, but I'll reserve my opinion in place of those who will have some more knowledge on the topic. I like Titan Cards and appreciated how they were the only place I could find affordable Chronology Vol. 2 boxes for original retail cost rather than the jacked up prices immediately after release. I also appreciate that Ally has an awareness of hockey and knows more names than just the two or three big rookies for any given season.

Kind of a strange situation considering they've had really good relationships previously with UD reps. I'm wondering if one of the official diamond dealers threw a fit about their practices.

I’m only 10 mins into the video but as much as it sucks, not being a CDD they are limited in what they can do online with new products.

I personally do not know what it takes to be a CDD but it’s sounds like they want to be and are trying to.

Hope all the best to them, but as you said in the title. Rules are rules and UD must have them in place for a reason.

That is really disappointing.... Possibly they can get Leaf and Presidents choice in and do breaks with those products!!!

I have to admit, I have a few friends at UD and love them peeps but the PR dept needs to be notified bec this doesn't look great. Optically it stinks and I work in PR/Advertising for some major companies.. oye

Let's keep in mind that we do not have the entirety of the story. We have part of it, from one of the parties involved.

Agreed but I feel the lady is genuine. Regardless lets hear the full story first.

Ally is as genuine a person as you will find in the hobby, and really has zero reason to make something up like this, it could only hurt her. I highly doubt we will hear from the other party involved, and (I will assume with a high degree of certainty) for obvious reasons.

Yes, very true, Steve. However, I don't see what they would get from lying/exaggerating the events. They previously had a seemingly good relationship with UD prior to this, even having employees of the card giant visit their store and send them promotional items.

I did like Rudy from Alpha Investments comment. They will find another way to succeed. At least I hope they do.

But shouldn't Upper Deck be helping them succeed instead of throwing up arbitrary road blocks? What does that do for anyone?

I've bought sealed product online from non-authorized dealers since they started the program. And they ship me sealed boxes/cases in pure violation of the spirit of UD's policy.

UD's policy was put into place to stop the race to the bottom on wax. That's not at all what these folks were doing. Feels like a bean counter stepped in and mucked up a good thing.

It'd be neat to see one of the big streamers to set up a mediation here to hear from UD on it. Would give them a big PR opportunity ahead of the National.

One of the things stated in the video was the pricing on the website. If this was a violation, posting the pricing, then be it. Ally even stated this and she also stated that UD would be ok if the prices were not posted on the website but emailed to individual inquiring persons. The personal breaks was not the major issue, but the combination of the posted prices on the website and the personal breaks.

On a side thought, there are plenty of other break sites that break differently than Titan. And Titan is unique in being one of the few that doesn’t do “buy slot” breaks...mostly personal breaks. So if the violation of personal breaks is the issue (which I don’t think is) then UD is definitely leaning towards the “slot breakers” since it wouldn’t violate the posting box prices online.

But another thing, if they are buying directly from UD, aren’t they in a category for being a CDD? Most shops usually buy from another party (CDD, maybe) and sell in store, or however they want to, with slightly jacked prices to cover expenses and to make some sort of profit. Is UD trying to dictate the entire market? This should be a reportable issue that government agencies should look into if this is the case.

I may be thinking too much into it, but those are my thoughts.

Any brick and mortar in the USA that is good standing from UD - can commit to product direst. There are limits (at times) to how much they will get, but they do buy direct.

Is this true? I thought you had to have a direct account in order to source with UD which they limit to larger shops. I've always thought that 'most' hobby shops source through GTS or Southern Hobby.

Remember the good ol' days when you could buy and sell stuff..

Those days weren't all that great for everyone.

And again, we do not have the whole story. We have one side. That's not to say that they are exaggerating anything, but we also do not know what they are choosing to omit from their story; UD might have other details and interactions germane to this conflict that the store isn't sharing right now.
