Sebastian Aho :canes:

Just starting to gain some traction with a new-ish pc, so figured there was enough to start posting my progress. I never really paid attention to Sebastian Aho's career or to the Hurricanes in general, but the whole Don Cherry "bunch of jerks" saga made me appreciate a new, fun loving side of the sport. So when I walked into Andy's sports cards in Calgary and saw this first card in the showcase, I knew I had to buy it. Since then, the Hurricanes have become my new team and SA20 my favourite player. It's been really enjoyable picking up new cards here and there and digging through value boxes at local shows. I'm not chasing everything, and I'm not sweating losing out on the more expensive pieces, I'm waaaay too late to the table to stress about the rare stuff. Some of my most exciting pickups have been great looking parallels from low end releases.

I'm going to try and chronicle the journey by adding what I paid for the card(in CDN$) and my own personal rating of the design/look. Aiming to add one every other day, but we'll see how that goes.

So to begin, the card that started it all:

2020/21 Upper Deck Series 2 High Gloss /10
Paid: $40.
Rating: 8/10
I'm not a fan of this year's base, but I do like the action shot and the jersey he's sporting.

As a Canes fan, and Aho is my favourite Cane by far, I approve of this post.

$40 for an HG is a steal and great pickup.

I still think Aho is underrated and the best is yet to come.

I have picked up most of his RCs and was lucky to get them when I did.

Welcome to the Aho Collectors Club! I started maybe 18-months ago with my son, so we missed out on a lot of his more reasonable rookie year prices. In fact, I'm missing a lot from his rookie year still.

There are some very deep-pocketed collectors from Finland. One in particular has many rookie year 1/1s and I think focuses there, but there are others.

For now, Aho cards are quite reasonable. It helps that he is here in North Carolina. I'm fine with Svechnikov taking some of the collector limelight!

If you're looking for game-used stuff, his items tend to go for more than pretty much anyone other than Svech. I've picked up a few things, but cards are the main thing we pick up.

That’s awesome! I’ve got a small hoard of canes stuff as they are insanely cheap in case breaks, as well as some incredible stuff from my secret santa.

I'm in the same boat, I only have a few rookie/rookie year cards and no 1/1's. But like you said, his stuff is still reasonably priced and it helps that Svech is super popular. I so badly wanted to pick up a game worn Aho jersey from the recent NHL auctions, but I was priced out almost immediately :laugh:

Rating: 9/10 Even though it's a sticker it blends really nicely into the design. The gold and foil provide a gorgeous shimmer effect and add touch of class despite the fact that it's an unnumbered, non-sp card.

Rating: 6.5/10 Love the quality stock and shine of the card, the black jersey really pops, but not a fan of the chunky borders.

Today's Aho is one I've been anxiously awaiting ever since I purchased it on COMC many months ago. It arrived in a bulk order recently and it's one of my favourites.
