So are they going to continue to slide while paying out all these contracts or are they soon going to make a move? They are slowly slipping out of contention for a playoff spot.

IMHO they are aiming for the First Overall Pick in the upcoming NHL Draft.... :|

Seriously, if I knew what the problem was, I'd be a fracking Hockey Genius.....

Anyways, here's hoping that with the current asset's that George McPhee has assembled, finally get their collective heads outta the sand/arse and start playing a full 60 minutes of Hockey!!!!!

Seems to have worked for the Penguins a few years back... And it appears to be working for the Oilers.

Brian, they just have to string a few stinkers in a row to get there!!!

They already tired the Pens, Hawks and Oilers method but failed. Caps had a run of high picks but it don't seem to be working for them.

I know I'll get blasted for saying this but it's time to trade Ovy. He just doesn't seem to want to play anymore. Maybe a change of scenery would help and the Caps could land some high draft picks/prospects to rebuild

The problem is that maybe after the lockout Ovy wouldl like to play the most in the KHL. He was a star there with big paycheck without high taxes. But dont want to blame Ovy. He is not playing bad, but he is not also the point machine which the Caps would like to have.

Maybe the problem is Oates. Guess most of us loves him for what he was doing on the ice. But maybe its also possible that he is not the right solution for the Caps. Really didnt understand why he pulled Neuvirth last night. He destroyed both of the goalies. Most of the people says that the biggest problem are the goalies, but if you dont score more than 2 goals in a match the possibility of winning shrinks.

Outside of Ovechkin and Backstrom there really isn't much of a team in Washington. Mike Green I guess, but can he actually play defense? If he isn't producing points he's pretty much useless. No true leadership on that team, and Ovechkin, as good as he is, is not a leader.

They would also be getting a couple of big/bad contracts back too. His $9.538M would make it extremely tough to move him.

Leonsis was one of the hardliners in the strike that was against big contracts so Im assuming hes already debating moving Ovy ......without fan backlash hed probably consider it ...

Mike Green is not even close to what he used to be at all dude is a pathetic defenseman when everytime he touches the puck he wants to lead a rush Ive seen him twice in the past 7 days and its just painful how far he has fallen off

I've been saying for quite some time. The 'C' needs to be removed form Ovechkin and given to Brouwer, IMO.

This will take some of the heat off of AO and let him sport the 'A' and have Brouwer start answering the hard questions.

They could certainly trade Ovechkin I am sure even a struggling Ovy would get much interest. I am sure they could get prospects or some great picks. I think the Caps really need to consider it options and make some big moves. This years draft class has some high end talent. I think the last few years have worn on Ovy and he needs a change. I agree that the lockout didn't help many of the Russian guys. They all got a taste of the KHL and they all seemed to love it and wanted to stay.

Ovechkin is still marketable, but the Caps would be stuck taking a big contract back, even with Ovi's star power. I think he has a no trade clause in his contract, but I'm wondering out loud if Washington would trade him for some picks to a team with cap space after the playofs are over.

To be honest, I dont think that the Caps are in need for some big rebuilt. Something needs to be changed, but I dont think it should be that big. Dont know if a trade of Ovechkin is the thing that the Caps need the most. He is the role model of the franchise and he doesnt perform that bad. But as I wrote before, they need better production from him. Ribeiro was a great addition and he is in my eyes the best player this season. Maybe the only thing needed is a veteran goalie who would share the duties with either Neuvirth or Holtby.
