Verified Trader,
I’m back from vacation and I come with a bunch of goodies. I’ve been fairly busy over the last six months (which is apparently the last time I did a S&T): so many shiny sets on my plate, picking and choosing what items I add to my Derek Roy collection and rekindling my Peter Forsberg collection. This is a long one with a TON of images, so strap in for the long haul. Ready? Let’s go.
Admittedly, I’ve really lost interest in my Roy collection since he left Buffalo and even then, I usually won’t touch anything that has the putrid third jersey with the “Buffalo” script on the front. Picky, I know. Still, I will gladly pick up his nicer stuff from his rookie year like this beauty, my second copy, which I got for under $10:
Next up, I went on a little bit of a Forsberg kick. Okay, a lot bit of a Forsberg kick. I got most of these from a single seller for prices I probably could have only dreamed of back in the day when these were new:
DEM SHINIEZ: Forsberg Edition
This one I got for a whole dollar (since my scanner sucks, it’s the Refractor version /400):
Big shout out to the one and only OMR, Randy Gore, for this freebie:
This one I paid a nice little chunk of change for, but they are hella rare and it’s pretty unlikely that I’ll land a copy from another year at the asking prices I’ve seen some of them go for:
Next up, many of you know him as the Chewbacca to my Han Solo, the Groot to my Rocket Raccoon: HI’s own Quincy. It’s thanks to him that I was able to take a huge chunk out of my remaining Flair Blue Ice want list, putting down to just Chris Simon and Jose Theodore for the set. Many thanks, Lurch.
Now, it’s time for some set work. As many of you who know me are aware, I have about 28,000 sets on my want list. From time to time, I actually finish some. Who knew, right? First up are a couple of partial sets I bought from the aforementioned Mr. Gore and recently completed:
1995/96 Upper Deck All-Stars
1995/96 Upper Deck Freeze Frame
1996/97 Upper Deck Lord Stanley’s Heroes Quarterfinals
Next up? DA SHINIEZ: Set Edition
1995/96 Pinnacle Clear Shots
1995/96 Pinnacle Rink Collection
And finally, the reason for this post. Nearly three years in the making, this set should have been killed a long, long time ago. It’s not that rare and no one in the set is even expensive, but for some reason, two cards would NOT show up: Jaromir Jagr and Mark Messier. Two of the most popular stars around and I can’t find this cheap, fairly common card of either? Seriously? After a little more than a year, a Jagr showed. Then it was just a matter of waiting for the Messier. And waiting. And waiting some more. Finally, Cole (Roaddogg) messaged me that he’d gotten the Messier as an addition in a trade and was sending it my way on the house despite my offer of “all the moniez”. So many thanks to Cole and needless to say, whatever I can offer up, it’s yours. Finally, I can call this set complete.
1999/00 Black Diamond Diamond Cut
Welp, that’s it for me. Nearly 500 images and a whole lot of space later. It’ll probably be a long time before I do one of these again: time to save for the big day in November: my wedding.
Until next time!
