I was listening to a couple different sports talk shows and both were commenting that this years play offs story has been about the reffing. Topic started by the goaltender interference, missed calls in the game last night.
One commentator has said the league is hearing the feedback from different markets and is considering more serious talks come off season gm/owner meetings.

For fun what rules would you liked reviewed?

I think a more defined definition of goal tender interference with every goal reviewed would be a great start. That is the most controversial and a call that is subjective that no two refs seem to call the same.

I think that shooting the puck over the glass should be review able or not a penalty and like icing, defending players have to stay on ice for faceoff. This one has been missed a few times in the play offs where it his other teams stick, touched the glass or was a deflection motion not a controlled shot.

I think that the refs have it hard for embellishment calls. The ones they call are half the time not true embellishments and the ones the miss are Oscar worthy. This I think should not be an in game call but something for the league after the game. The are not stuck in split second decision but can see the full hit. I think it should be a three strikes penalty (fines)for obvious and then 1, 3, 5 game suspensions. It would clear that up quite fast. A player who is on 3 strikes, do they risk the 4th to draw a penalty and get suspended.

Please review/challenge high sticks, I think back to last year with mike riberio getting cut open twice! on a faceoff in same game and missed both times. This goes against player safety and makes refs look blind.

That's all I can think of now but if they tightened things up , I think NHL can get back into a positive light and not be seen as the step brother of the other major sports.

I like the idea of the shooting the puck over the glass call not being a penalty, but instead treat it the same way as an icing call. You can't change your players, which can be just as penalizing as a penalty. It's a stupid penalty, and should be taken out.

I also think that all goals should be reviewed, especially when it comes to an opposition player that possibly makes contact with the goalie in the crease, or is actually in the crease causing the goalie to not be able to get in postion to make a save. If they are pushed in, then let the goal stand, but the crease should be for the goalies only, and they should be protected. Not to go as far as the Brett Hull toenail in the crease deal, but if they have both feet in for example, then wave it off. If a goalie goes out of the crease, and gets dinged, bumped etc. then tough luck. That's his own risk.

I also hate the trapazoid rule. Let them play the puck from wherever they want to. most of the goalies are useless handling it anyways. Stop penalizing goalies like Brodeur, because they have a skill nobody else can match.

Get rid of the instigator rule. Let the players police their own deals without the fear of putting their team in a hole, and personal prosecution. This would eliminate a lot of stupidness from the likes of guys like Matt Cooke, and Raffi Torres. You want to hit someone from behind, or stick your knee out at someone, you are gonna be needing eyes in the back of your head for the rest of your career.

Bring back the bench clearing brawls. Those were freakin awesome.

D pushing, tripping and driving players into the goalie should be a penalty on the D not the forward trying to screen the goalie. Also if the goalie is outside the blue and runs into a player who is facing the other directions screening while looking for a tip should not be goalie interference but interference from the goalie on the forward. I hate guys running the goalie on purpose sure crack down on that but there are to many bogus GI calls already

I say we just throw rules out the window. turn off the lights, drop a disco ball and drop 50 pucks on the ice for 10 mins. end of regulation...overtime is another story :P

I like this idea a lot dude. I would add that if a goalie goes behind the net he should be fair game.
