To the surprise of no one...Vigneault fired

this is soooo stupid! they won't do any better with or without him.
it's like Montreal with Guy Carbonneau a few years back...they finished first in the league but don't win the cup...Carbonneau out!! a few years later...they finish 15 in the east. Fire the players and not the coach. That would help.

Step 2 - get rid of the goalie that has been the goalie of record when they lost the last two playoff series in the first round.

Craig - see what I did there? :D

Randy everyone's entitled to love and hate who they want. Thats what its like to be a fan.

Kinda why when you bash Bure i let it slide. Still my favorite canuck of all time for what he did on the ice.

I find this funny because I thought I just heard a stat that he/Vancouver has the most regular season wins over the past 4 season..... Something had to change though,
I think Henrik Sedin nailed it on the head when they asked him about loosing out in the playoffs early again and his response was somewhere along the lines of "don't ask me, we put up 4 solid seasons since our contract, I think the team has to start looking elsewhere"

Figured this had to be coming, the coach/assistants always take the fall. I don't watch enough Canuck games (shocker right) to really evaluate AV, but from what I saw in the multiple playoff series, he did seem to get out coached at times and making in game adjustments were almost non-existant. It will be interesting to see what roster moves they make, if I'm reading things correctly, they only have $1.39 million in cap space with 8 forwards, 6 dmen (including Ballard), and 3 goalies signed? Is that right?

I think AV will land somewhere in the NHL, someone will give him another shot. No disrespect to the Canuck faithful, but the guy did provide me with one of my favorite coaching moments of all time - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ajjX9_QtSAk

Aside form the Sedin twins (and an injured Kesler) who exactly do they have to carry the team? From what Ive seen, AV seems to have done mighty well considering they are a team of relative nobodies. But yeah, first in your division (albeit the weakest in the league by far) is underperforming.

In no specific order, here's a list of possible Canucks coaching options: Tippett, Ruff, Renney, Boucher, Maurice, Arniel, Eakins, Martin.

Out of these guys i hope it's Tippett

Would love to see Tippett in Vancouver next year - I do also like Lindy Ruff but I seem to be in the minority there.

First, I am not surprised.

Second, I too am hoping that Tippett comes up north.

Third, Tony when I saw your post and the youtube link I knew it was going to be Vernon Fiddler's angry Bieksa. That cracks me up every time I watch it.

Lol I totally forgot about Fiddler doing the Bieksa face.

I like AV. He's a good coach, and pretty good with the media. And cracking up on the Fiddler impression of Bieksa made him seem like a real down to earth likeable guy.

His stats as a coach are impressive, and the last 5 years of Canucks hockey have been some of the the best ever. So I appreciate what he's done and will miss him.

But it is time for a change. AV does get out-coached. He is slow to adjust and doesn't seem to be able to utilize younger players or get players to adapt and change their roles. So decent players find themselves in the press box or on the 4th line or in the AHL. Couldn't get maximum use out of Kassian, Booth, Roy, etc.

For sure, I think Bowness had to go (long overdue - he'd be first to go before anyone, IMO). Defensive systems were a mess. Couldn't adjust when a dman got injured. Goes back to the SCF in 2011. Totally amplified this year when Bieksa got injured, and then Tanev went down. So your system completely falls apart when right handed shot d-men are out of the line up? Seriously? Took forever to get Garrison up to speed with the system. Couldn't use Ballard, unless he was playing with Tanev. Even solid tandem of Hamhuis/Bieksa was abysmal this season.

I had a longer leash on Newell Brown, but there were signs that he didn't know what to do with the PP without Ehrhoff and Salo.

As for a replacement, I don't know who would fit well. I like Tippett, but can he coach some up tempo hockey with offensively skilled players? Or is it going to be like Phoenix. I can't remember what his coaching style was like in Dallas (before Phoenix). But I do like how he's able to make lemonade out of lemons.

I don't think Renny is a good fit. Great tactician, but wasn't able to coach the young Oilers. Didn't do that great of a job in his previous tour of duty with the Canucks.

Ruff and Boucher will stress defensive accountability (remember that fiasco with TB vs Philly?). You end up with a team like the NYR, where Torts demands everyone to think defence first, except nobody scores. So skilled talent like Gaborik, Richards, and Nash are wasted.

I would love a guy like Larry Robinson. Or Adam Oates. Creative coaches who can come up with organic defensive and offensive systems. Of course I'd want a guy like Babcock. But none of those guys are available and I'm just dreaming.
