I find it humerous how many ridiculous ebay auctions have sellers trying to capitalize on the Pens stanley cup wins. A tonne of Pens cards have been listed with the catch line of Stanley Cup Champions.

However, this one just made me laugh.

A custom Brooks Orpik mcfarlane that well doesn't look a thing like Orpik. Not to mention the fact that he doesn't wear a visor!

Anything to try to make a buck huh

No worse than McFarlane himself putting a white mask on the Carey Price figure and calling it a rookie variant.

I've got to say, this just seems like nitpicking. Sure I may have a different view if it was my guy who he was doing the custom of but still. To email the guy and tell him that Orpik doen'st wear a visor and try and bring this guy down almost reaks of having nothing better to do. The guy made a custom and is now trying to sell it. Good on him for that. If it doesn't look like him or have the same shot, big deal.

I don't think anyone contacted him.. were just having a laugh from afar.

I never once contacted him I didn't say that in my original post so not sure where that came from.

Obviously I'm not going to nitpick he hast the right to sell his stuff just like the next guy. I just thought it was funny and it made me laugh so I shared it.

No need to go on the offensive it was a harmless post ;)

Fair enough. My apologies. He stated in his auction that the visor was removable so I assumed the someone emailed him to point it out. Either way, for customs, I think that they're done pretty well.

I've collected Mcfarlane sportspicks quite extensively for several years and have seen people capitalizing on almost anything that could make money.

As for a custom, the quality is reflecting in how much time it took them to make it. If you aren't picky about details and just want a figure with the correct logo on the chest and name on the back, then sure. Mcfarlane will probably have one of Crosby with the cup out by the end of the year anyways. (they too try very hard to capitize :p)

The seller's other custom work is actually better and has more detail (check feedback).

If you want to compare custom work, check this guys work out.

I've got a custom made by him (Jets selanne #13).

Customs by Jomo (customsbyjomo.com) sets the top standard for custom work. the Orpik and Crosby don't even come close.

There's a community for customizers just like there is one for card collectors. If this guy is remotely interested in improving his work, then he should welcome details that he missed, such as visors, missing stick, and which handed shot the player shoots. To me, missed details like those are equivalent to having "Orrpik" on the back.

Now me being picky: (although the figure has already been ripped on the Spawn.com boards)

The yellow on the jersey looks too much like gold and the borders for the colors look to be in the wrong places. It'd be nice to have the reebok and NHL logos on the jersey. And since this is a "moment in time" figure, it should look like when Crosby picked the cup up for the first time. It's pretty easy to get reference videos to work from.

at time 12:34 is what the figure is supposed to capture.
