Classic Futurama if you are a fan and it's the 50th anniversary of the moon landing.

I have been collecting for almost 50 years and my beloved green Whalers started out 3 years after the moon was discovered to be made of green cheese.

With my player PCs hitting a lull it was time to focus on my Whaler team PC.

This could also be called Now & Then as you will see.

After picking up the Foegele FX Spectrum with the throwback Whalers uni I was lucky enough to participate in John's (jdg573) bounty submission program.



This gold beauty is now in hand and I'd like to thank John again for making it happen.

Our final Whaler pickup is a set that I wasn't sure even existed. It has been on my checklist for as long as I can remember. This is the very first Whaler issue. The year they won the Avco Cup and the start of the Harpoon logo days.

The oddest of oddballs is next.


When I started collecting Meloche 8 years ago there was an oddball issue from 1987 that I really had no idea what it looked like, had never seen anything from this set. I had an idea but had never seen the front or back and wasn't 100% sure what I was looking for.


After finishing off every Meloche issue especially from his playing days this one has eluded me.


I finally saw one posted and said price be damned!!

Now and Then comes full circle.

My Gartner checklist I printed years ago had a card that listed for $100 and I only recently saw the actually card.

I'm sure it isn't worth that anymore but hey I'm very happy to cross it off the list.

I have finally tracked down one of these and we go from the beginning of the WHA with the 72 Whalers to the end of the league and some pretty good players who got their start in the rival league

Great post, as you know I love the old and oddball stuff. I still have all my old OPC and Panini sticker books going back to 1981. This post have motivated me to pick up some old stuff that I have neglected in the past few years.

That Meloche is a bit strange. Maybe you can use it for a Halloween party or better yet for cosplay when you visit Corbetts.

The favs are the stickers. I remember buying all those back in the day and love seeing the different shots from back then instead of all the recycled photos in todays product.

A Sci Fi Themed Showcase for sure~That Meloche Mask!!haha I have some Isles masks like that one including a super creepy Billy Smith (avec Toupee)..The green wave of Whalers is alive and well..cooperalls included! Love the sticker designs! Thanks for another Moon worthy showcase..:^)
 
Great S & T Geoff and my favorites are them OPC / Panini stickers.
I spent lots of fun (:|!) time sorting them.
Need more, send me your list, NO French Panini though!

Nice Foegele collection thus far but what really caught my eye was the stickers. I remember collecting some of those in the early 80’s. Thanks for sparking up some great nostalgia!
 
First, that Meloche mask thing is freaking me out, man. Just...scary LOL.

Second, what jersey is Gartner wearing in that "Now and Then" card? The black and gold one? They should've used a Caps picture for it, as it would have made more sense with the Messier and Gretzky as Oilers.

Gartner is in his WHA Cincinnati Stingers uni.

Gretz is actually in his WHA Indy Racers jersey

Mess is shown as a first year Oiler but could have been a Racer or Stinger ironically as he played for both in the last year of the WHA

Wow what a post! So much awesome Whale! Plus a Futurama reference - top notch! Congrats on finding that 1972-73 Whalers set. I can't believe that exists! Thanks for sharing!
 
LOVE THE MASK!! I am on a search for the Lemieux one, had one pop up a couple of years back and made an offer but never heard back. I know they are out there, somewhere, just glad to see another one has survived and made it into a collection!
