What If.... Spiderman Vs. Mickey Mouse? Disney Buys Marvel!!!

I see them leaving Marvel alone, pretty much the same as with Pixar. I'm sure we'll see some silly crossovers, probably geared at the kids (never a bad thing), but they'll leave the core titles as-is.

Marvel, DC, Image and the rest are operating from the same doomed and increasingly obsolete business model that's doing so poorly for traditional newspapers. Marvel's had financial woes for years, recently turning around in the wake of a very successful movie house. It doesn't surprise me that they've decided to cash out, nor does it surprise me that an unstoppable media powerhouse like Disney would buy them. It dovetails very nicely into their existing operations, and Marvel - unlike DC - has a wealth of future potential movie offerings.

And I'll betcha this: Under Disney's watch, we won't see craptacular offerings like Wolverine Origins.

Disney has said that this deal will not affect the comics, so at least there's that. Besides that I think the movies are going to be affected which sucks.

If there's anything that Disney knows how to milk - it's their franchises. They just appointed the head of Disney Channel to helm the Marvel movie business. And anyone with kids between the age of 6 and 14 will know how well Disney has been doing with their franchises from Disney Channel in the last decade...

If Disney makes the movies too kid friendly I wont even watch them. I want to see the violence, in fact it would be awesome if the movies were a little more adult orientated. The sad thing is if the movies are geared more towards kids they will still do well. I have a feeling that we are screwed.

It's not about making the movies more kid-oriented, they want to make money. Disney already has their own properties for that - the Marvel movies are clearly for expanding their presence, and thus earning opportunities. They know what they've got, otherwise why would they have paid the premium they did in order to buy Marvel?

If there was a lot of money to be made in the Marvel movies Marvel wouldn't have been in financial trouble. If they make the movie geared towards kids like Pirates of the Caribbean they will be appealing to a wider market. Not just comic fans but kids as well. There are also rumours of some movies that were going to be made not going to be made now because the target audience isn't big enough.
