I wasn't impressed with his game last year. He was awesome in junior, so I think a year in the AHL may be exactly what he needs. The Wild are too thin at forward and in all honest, him and Sheppard should both be AHL'ers at this point.

Sheppard will have a good year this year, Gillies is superfast with a hard shot. A year in the minors will do him wonders.

I know you're bummed, Cole, but it was the best thing to do for the team and Gillies himself. How can he develop playing on the 3rd-4th line, 5-6 minutes a game? On the Aeros he'll get more ice time, and more experience in different situations (PP, PK). For some reason DR brought up both Shep and Gillies too early, imo. Neither were players that should've been rushed into the NHL like Crosby, Tavares, etc. A season in Houston did a lot of good for some of our other first rounders. Koivu, Burns, & PMB all did their time down there. Gillies probably should've been there last year, but he was too young.

Don't worry, he'll likely shine down there compared to the other "prospects". The Wild have a couple of old vets in Nolan & Bruno, not to mention Havlat has a injury prone history. I wouldn't be surprised to see Colton get a few call-ups this year.

Definitely best for his development. Can't say I saw his preseason much, so tough to say if he deserved to make it just yet. But you'll def see him called up at some point and he is a solid prospect, he'll be a full time NHLer in due time :)
