Winning redemption cards on Ebay - any danger of seller emailing redemption code?

I won a redemption card on Ebay, and asked the seller if she could email the redemption code rather than ship the actual card.

Does anyone see any danger in doing so, other than the seller potentially redeeming the card before emailing the code to me? As a seller, would you in this situation feel uneasy about emailing a code to a buyer like this?

Thanks in advance

I don't know about this seller, but I always ask for them to do that when I win a redemption card or when I sell one. Some folks want 'em for the record, but not me. As a seller, I figure it's a good way for some folks to save on the total cost of an auction by eliminating shipping costs all together.

I always ask for both... email the code and then send the card in a white envelope... cheap shipping and you still have the redemption card in case something should happen down the road?? Probably nothing would happen, but you never know...

I usually do that when selling. I also ask the buyer to contact me when he/she has redeemed the card, an added benefit of UD's online redemption program.

Thanks for the input. As a buyer I didn't see the harm in it but I've had sellers refuse to do it, and wondered if I was missing something. Maybe they don't want to lose on the $2-3 shipping fee.

When I've bought - I felt safer receiving it first. But when I've sold, I've had people ask me for the code and I've sent it by email to them, but I follow up with the actual redemption in the mail just in case they need it later at some point.

I've had 1 seller refuse to send me the code via email after paying with paypal bc he has a situation once where after emailing the code to a buyer, that buyer filed a claim with paypal and got his money back.. I can see why some sellers don't send the code but it all depends on your feedback I think..

I generally don't have a preference, and am willing to take the route that the other party wants to take. Of course, if buying, no one has a right to complain about the shipping if the seller prefers to ship and no prior agreement was made to send the redemption code via e-mail.

I've won a redempt card and we decide for him to send me the code and it worked out fine for me, talk about buy it now!! paid!!! sent code!!! and 2 positive feedback for both in less then 5 minutes. ;)
