It's official...Gaborik will be out for remainder of the year...probably

So under cap rules...can a team pick up Gabby via trade and not take a cap hit by putting him on injured reserve for the rest of the season, or a physically unable to perform list? (do those exist in hockey?)

If so, I don't see his stock falling that much more than it already has...

I think that you can but why would you trade for a guy that is going to be a free agent at the end of the year - just for the opportunity to try to sign him first? I guess I can see the rationalization behind it but I can't imagine anyone would give up too much for those rights.

Too bad for Gabby and the Wild - you would think that you would be able to get the best production of they guys career in his last season instead you get zippo - hurts the team and himself, can't imagine that teams are going to be lining up to write him a big check now...well I guess there is always a dumb owner out there somewhere though.

Wanna bet Don Waddell offers Kovalchuk and 9 1st rounders for Gaborik?

I don't know who I gave the nickname NHL Glass Joe to...but Gaborik is certainly deserving of the nickname of his Super Punch Out equivalent these days - Gabby Jay.

I would imagine that right about now he's wishing that he took that eight million from the Wild on their previous offer.

haha the title is funny.

So it's officially probable that he's out? :D
They say he MIGHT be back in time for end of season/playoffs.........but I highly doubt it. Gabby is a SLOW healer and he will be out for the rest of the season.

Then a Free Agent in the summer...........he'll get less $$ than he would have....the Wild get nothing in trade/return for him.....Gabby AND the Wild both lose on this deal.

He played a handful of games this year for $7.5M...not bad!!!!!!!

To say I'm disappointed is an understatement. :badmood:

Oh well.......life goes on.

Happy New Year everyone!!!

Maybe we should've bought some AIG stocks, Curt. It may have been a better investment.:|

I too am frustrated. If it takes 10 weeks to heal from this surgery, I don't understand why he didn't have it done when he sat out the first three months of the season. I wouldn't be surprised if Gaborik played his last game in a Wild sweater. It's terrible management by the front office. They'll get zero in return for him now.

It looks like the curse of Minnesota sports is alive, and well.

I feel so bad for Minny. They deserve better than this. They're gonna lose Gaborik for nothing without even the chance to trade him.
